Shipping from Jeddah to Qatar: crossing the Kingdom coast to coast

Jeddah sits on the west coast and Qatar on the Arabian Gulf in the east, so a shipment crosses the whole width of Saudi Arabia. The closed truck leaves Jeddah, heads east on the Jeddah–Riyadh expressway past Dhalm and Al Quwayiyah into Riyadh, then takes the Khurais road to Hofuf in Al Ahsa and turns south-east to the Salwa border. Once Saudi export formalities are complete, the truck crosses to the Qatari Abu Samra border post, about 95 km from Doha.

Pure driving takes around 16–18 hours, but a household move is not measured in driving hours. There is a day for collection, dismantling and packing, mandatory driver rest stops, sometimes consolidation in Riyadh, formalities at two border posts and then delivery to addresses across Qatar. That is why we give Jeddah customers a realistic 4–5 days, and we tell you straight away if anything changes.

Regular departures from Jeddah heading east

Trucks bound for Riyadh and the Eastern Province leave Jeddah almost daily. Qatar shipments are loaded onto them and transferred in Riyadh or Al Ahsa to the truck heading for Salwa, or the same truck runs straight through when its load from Jeddah is full. When you book, the team tells you the next available departure. If you take a dedicated truck, it leaves on the day you choose without waiting for consolidation.

Distances and transit times from Jeddah to Qatari cities

These approximate figures run from your door in Jeddah to the door in Qatar, including collection, packing and both border posts. Towns close to Doha are delivered on arrival day; northern and western towns need extra distribution time.

City in Qatar Approx. distance from Jeddah Road, door to door Air
Doha about 1,500 km 4–5 days 1–2 days
Al Rayyan about 1,500 km 4–5 days 1–2 days
Al Wakrah about 1,510 km 4–5 days 1–2 days
Lusail & Umm Salal about 1,520 km 5–6 days 2 days

Collection across Jeddah and nearby towns

Our crew collects in north Jeddah (Obhur Al Shamaliyah, Al Shati, Al Muhammadiyah, Al Naeem), central Jeddah (Al Rawdah, Al Salamah, Al Zahra, Al Hamra, Al Andalus), the east (Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Samer, Al Ajwad) and the south (Al Bawadi, Al Quraiyat, Al Sanabel), as well as Rabigh, Thuwal and Al Kamil. In the old quarters such as Al Balad, Al Hindawiyah and Al Sharafiyah, where streets are narrow and buildings often have no lift, a small dyna shuttles the furniture to the large truck waiting on a main road.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to Qatar

Al Saif’s starting prices are the same from every Saudi city; the final cost then depends on volume, weight, the Qatari destination and any extra services. Because Jeddah is one of the cities furthest from the Qatari border, the price can rise with distance on some shipments, and the itemised quote confirms the final figure before loading.

Boxes per kg Shared road SAR 7.5/kg

How the cost from Jeddah is worked out

Four things build the quote: volume or weight (whichever is greater on shared road freight), the vehicle (shared or dedicated), the receiving city in Qatar, and services such as dismantling, assembly, a crane, wooden crating and storage. A worked example: a family in Al Samer sends six boxes of clothes and kitchenware weighing 110 kg in total to their son in Al Rayyan. At a starting rate of SAR 7.5 per kg, that comes to about SAR 825. If they add a dismantled bedroom on the same trip, the room rate from SAR 880 is added, and combining both is cheaper than sending them on separate trips.

Ways to cut the cost from Jeddah

  • Use a shared load for one room or a few boxes, so you split the truck cost.
  • Leave old pieces behind: over 1,500 km, shipping a cheap item can cost more than buying it new in Doha.
  • Send everything on one trip rather than several shipments.
  • Pack boxes tightly so you are not charged for empty space.
  • Book early before the end of the school year and holidays, when eastbound trips fill up.

Furniture moving from Jeddah to Qatar: your options

A move depends on the size of the home, so Jeddah customers can choose between several formats. A shared load suits one or two rooms or a student’s belongings, with a room from SAR 880. A dedicated dyna suits a two- or three-bedroom apartment from SAR 1,700 and travels with your furniture only. A trailer is for the large villas of Obhur, Al Shati and Al Muhammadiyah, from SAR 7,900, with room for big majlis sets, many bedrooms, appliances and full kitchens.

Option Suits Starts from
Shared load One room, a student or single employee SAR 880
Dedicated dyna 2–3 bedroom apartment SAR 1,700
Closed lorry Large apartment or one villa floor By volume
Trailer Complete large villa SAR 7,900

Dismantling and packing in Jeddah

Jeddah’s high humidity can affect wood and fabric on a long trip, so our crew pays close attention to moisture-resistant packing: tight stretch film on sofas and mattresses, bubble wrap on glossy surfaces, blankets on wood and rigid cardboard around glass and mirrors. Bedrooms, wardrobes and dining tables are taken apart piece by piece, screws go into numbered bags taped to the matching piece, and each box is labelled with its room.

  • Kitchens: units dismantled, doors numbered, marble tops crated in wood.
  • Air conditioners: removed by a technician after the refrigerant is pumped into the outdoor unit.
  • Fridge and washing machine: emptied and dried a day before, drum locked.
  • TVs: bubble wrap, rigid cardboard and loaded upright.

Loading and the journey

Heavy items go at the bottom and light ones on top, all strapped so nothing shifts on a long road through Riyadh and Khurais. A numbered contents list travels with the load for Salwa and Abu Samra, and you keep a copy to check against on arrival.

Assembly in Qatar

The delivery team calls the consignee a day ahead to fix a time, especially for West Bay and Lusail towers where the lift must be booked, and for compounds that need an entry permit. Furniture is unloaded and checked against the list, bedrooms, wardrobes and kitchens are reassembled, and boxes go to the rooms written on them.

Luxury furniture and antiques from Jeddah

North Jeddah villas often hold pieces that ordinary wrapping cannot protect: marble tables, crystal chandeliers, paintings, solid-wood furniture and antiques. These travel in made-to-measure wooden crates padded with foam, and chandeliers are dismantled with every crystal numbered. Insurance can be added for valuable items on request, and each piece is photographed and its condition recorded on the list before packing.

Valuables tip: keep gold, jewellery and official papers in a bag that stays with you, never inside shipped boxes.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Qatar

Shipping a car from Jeddah to Qatar starts from SAR 1,100 for a sedan on a shared open carrier, SAR 1,400 for an SUV and SAR 1,850 on an enclosed carrier, with the car reaching Doha in about 5–6 days. Every car is secured with wheel straps and photographed from all sides before loading.

VIP shipping for high-value cars

Sports, classic and high-value new cars travel on an enclosed carrier that shields them from desert dust and sun across 1,500 km. They are loaded with a low-angle ramp suited to low-clearance cars, share the carrier with only a few vehicles, and can be insured on request.

Car shipping steps from Jeddah

  1. Send the make, model and condition of the car to 0555915287.
  2. Prepare the registration, the owner’s ID and export plates or an export certificate, plus a bank letter if the car is financed.
  3. Remove personal items and leave about a quarter tank of fuel.
  4. The car is collected, photographed and strapped onto the carrier.
  5. It crosses Salwa and Abu Samra and is handed to the consignee in Qatar.

Commercial goods and e-commerce from Jeddah

From the industrial city, the Al Khumrah and Al Sulaymaniyah warehouses and the shops of Al Balad and Qabil Street, Al Saif sends traders’ goods to Qatar. Medium quantities go as part loads charged per cubic metre or per tonne from SAR 420; large quantities go as a full load on a dedicated truck from SAR 1,700. The service suits online stores sending regular batches of clothing, perfume, abayas and accessories to a warehouse or customer in Doha.

  • Part load: pallets or commercial cartons on a shared truck.
  • Full load: a dyna, lorry or trailer for one customer.
  • Papers: commercial registration, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and a health certificate for food.

Sea containers for commercial cargo

When the cargo fills a commercial container, it can be trucked from Jeddah to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and then shipped by sea to Hamad Port in Qatar. This option is for large commercial cargo only; household furniture and cars travel by road door to door, which suits them in time and handling.

Boxes, bags and parcels from Jeddah

Many Jeddah families send clothes, belongings and gifts to children working or studying in Qatar. A box or bag up to 30 kg starts from SAR 120, and anything beyond that is charged per kg from SAR 7.5 on shared road freight. Bags are collected locked and stretch-wrapped, perfume and incense are packed in sealed containers, and wrapped sweets and dates travel inside personal boxes.

Item Packing tip
Suitcase Locked, stretch-wrapped, labelled with the consignee’s name and number
Clothes boxes 10–20 kg per box so they do not split
Perfume and oud Sealed bottles in bubble wrap, no large pressurised sprays
Small appliances Original box or bubble wrap

Air freight from Jeddah to Qatar

Documents, samples, urgent spare parts and light gifts fly from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Hamad International Airport in Doha, arriving in 1–2 days door to door. Prices start from SAR 46 per kg, charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height ÷ 6000 in centimetres.

Air freight from Jeddah to Hamad International Airport — Al Saif
Air freight from Jeddah to Hamad International Airport — Al Saif
Worked example: a 60 × 40 × 40 cm box has a volumetric weight of 16 kg; if it actually weighs 9 kg, it is charged at 16 kg, from about SAR 736. That is why air suits light, urgent items rather than furniture.

Road, air or sea: which fits your Jeddah shipment?

Mode Time Suits
Shared road 4–5 days Boxes, one room, loose items
Dedicated road 4–5 days Apartment or villa, full commercial loads
Car carrier 5–6 days All types of car
Air 1–2 days Documents, samples, urgent parcels
Sea (containers) Per vessel schedule Large commercial cargo via Dammam to Hamad Port

The Salwa and Abu Samra border posts

Salwa, in Al Ahsa governorate, is the only land crossing between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, facing Abu Samra on the Qatari side. At Salwa, Saudi export clearance is completed electronically through the Fasah platform, the load is inspected and the contents list is checked. The truck then moves to Abu Samra for Qatari import clearance. Our team prepares the paperwork before the truck leaves Jeddah, so the shipment is not held at either post.

Customs and documents

Documents vary by shipment type and follow the regulations in force at the time of shipping. Having everything ready before loading day keeps the crossing smooth.

Shipment Documents
Household furniture ID or iqama, passport, contents list, Fasah authorisation, Qatari consignee details (QID and mobile)
Car Registration, owner’s ID, export plates or export certificate, bank letter if financed
Commercial goods Commercial registration, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, health certificate for food

Used furniture moving with its owner is usually treated as personal effects, while large quantities of new furniture or appliances may be treated as goods. That is why the list describes each piece precisely: new or used, type and quantity.

What cannot be shipped

Flammables, gas cylinders, loose batteries, medicines without a prescription, and plants and seeds without a permit are excluded. Jeddah customers should also keep large aerosol cans and pressurised air fresheners out of their boxes.

Delivery to every city in Qatar

Jeddah shipments reach Doha’s districts, including West Bay, Al Dafna, Al Sadd, Al Mansoura, Najma, Old Airport, Al Hilal and Al Waab. From Doha they are delivered the same day to Al Wakrah and Al Rayyan, including Muaither, Al Aziziyah and Bawabat Al Rayyan. Lusail, Al Khor and Mesaieed need about one extra day, and Dukhan, Al Shamal and Al Ruwais one to two days. Delivery also covers Umm Salal and the newer residential areas north of Doha.

Storage in Jeddah before shipping

If your Jeddah lease ends before your home in Qatar is ready, your furniture can be kept packed and numbered in Al Saif’s warehouse and shipped on the date you set. Storage is priced by volume and duration and added to the quote, and goods are kept indoors away from humidity.

When to ship from Jeddah to Qatar

Demand for eastbound trips peaks at the end of the school year and before long holidays, when trucks fill and waiting lists grow, so book at least two weeks ahead in those periods. In quieter months dates are easier to get. In summer, early-morning loading is advisable because of Jeddah’s heat and humidity, with electronics and heat-sensitive items packed with extra care.

Shipping from Qatar to Jeddah

Al Saif runs the route both ways. If you are returning from Doha to Jeddah, or sending things from Qatar to family in Jeddah, the shipment is collected from your address in Qatar, crosses Abu Samra and Salwa and reaches Jeddah in about the same time, with dismantling and packing in Qatar and assembly in Jeddah.

Common mistakes Jeddah customers make

  • Not mentioning that a building in Al Balad or Al Hindawiyah has no lift.
  • Leaving the fridge undrained the day before.
  • Packing large pressurised sprays and perfumes inside boxes.
  • Not photographing the car before handing it to the carrier.
