Shipping company from Riyadh to Turkey: why your furniture goes by sea
Riyadh sits in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula, far from the sea, so some customers assume that shipping from it to Turkey must go by road. In reality, household furniture and cars go to Turkey by sea, because the land route is long, crosses more than one country and its procedures change, whereas a sea container is closed once at your Riyadh home and not opened until the Turkish port. Your furniture’s journey therefore has two stages: a road stage within the Kingdom from Riyadh to the port, and a sea stage from the port to Turkey.
In the road stage we choose the right port for you. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is closer to Riyadh, about 400 km away, but ships from there sail around the Arabian Peninsula from the Gulf into the Arabian Sea and then the Red Sea before reaching the Suez Canal, so the voyage is longer. Jeddah Islamic Port is about 950 km from Riyadh but lies directly on the Red Sea, and ships head north from it to Suez and the Mediterranean. That is why most Riyadh containers to Turkey ship via Jeddah, with Dammam used when its sailing schedule suits your date. Either way you do not make the journey yourself: the truck takes the sealed container from your door to the port gate.
In the sea stage the container sails through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal to a Turkish port. We choose the destination port by the city you will live in: Mersin for the south, Antalya, Konya and Gaziantep; Ambarli for Istanbul, Bursa, Yalova and Sakarya; and Izmir for the west coast. Our agent then handles customs clearance and a truck delivers the furniture to your address.
Sea or air from Riyadh?
Riyadh customers are usually one of two kinds: a family moving a home or part of one, which is a sea shipment, or someone sending a parcel, documents or a bag to a son or daughter studying in Istanbul or Ankara, which is an air shipment from King Khalid Airport. Between them is the trader, who chooses sea for quantities and air for samples. The rule we explain to every customer is that air freight is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so a light sofa takes up a lot of volume and becomes very expensive by air, whereas a shared container charges only for its volume.
| Comparison | Sea via Jeddah or Dammam | Air from King Khalid Airport | Land |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transit time | 15–20 days to Mersin, 18–25 days to Istanbul, plus trucking from Riyadh to the port | 2–4 days | Sea is the practical route for furniture and cars |

| Starts from | SAR 3,250 per room, SAR 6,000 per 20 ft container | SAR 14 per kg | — |

Why Riyadh residents choose Al Saif
A Riyadh customer needs someone to handle the distance between home and port, because that distance alone is a long journey. We handle it completely:
- A team in Riyadh: arriving at your home in Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Al Suwaidi, Al Olaya or any district to dismantle, pack and number.
- A container at your door: loaded and sealed in front of you, so your furniture is not reloaded at the port.
- The right port: Jeddah or Dammam depending on ship schedules and your date.
- Delivery across Turkey: port to door with assembly on request, or port to port with your own Turkish agent.
- An itemised quote: inland haulage, sea freight, Turkish port charges, clearance and delivery.
- Optional insurance: insurance can be added for valuable items on request.
- One number: 0555915287 from packing day to delivery day.
Riyadh in particular has many employees and expats whose contracts end and who move to Turkey, Saudi families who own homes in Istanbul and Trabzon, and companies relocating staff or opening offices in Turkey. We know what each group needs and suggest the right container and service.

What raises or lowers the price from Riyadh?
After volume, the factor specific to Riyadh is the distance to the port. A container loaded in Riyadh needs a long road haul before sailing, and that haul is part of the cost. The published starting prices include collection in Riyadh, and differences tend to come from extra services such as a lift for tall buildings, storage before shipping or wooden crates for antiques. The destination port matters too: if you will live in Istanbul, arriving at Ambarli saves a long inland haul from Mersin, while for Antalya or Konya Mersin is closer. The season also plays a part, as demand from Riyadh families shipping to summer homes rises before summer.
Tips to save on shipping from Riyadh
- Sell or donate old appliances in Riyadh: shipping them so far may cost more than they are worth.
- Share a container: for one or two rooms, a shared container charges only for your volume.
- Combine car and furniture: a single 40 ft container may fit both.
- Plan your move-out early: if your Riyadh lease is ending, book packing well ahead so you do not need storage.
- The cheapest way to send parcels: combine the family’s parcels into one air shipment.
Furniture moving from Riyadh to Turkey
Riyadh homes are usually spacious, with large majlis rooms, several bedrooms, custom kitchens and an air conditioner in every room. The move therefore starts with an accurate volume estimate, through a visit or a video call in which you walk us round the house. We then work out the number of cartons, the packing materials and the container type, and agree a packing day. On that day the team arrives early, starts with the delicate pieces and then the large ones, numbers every carton with its room and contents, and prepares the contents list that customs in the Kingdom and in Turkey require.

The journey to Turkey is long, with a road haul in Riyadh’s heat followed by days at sea, so we protect against both heat and moisture. Electronics are packed in their own boxes or padded cartons, wood is wrapped in blankets and then plastic, and moisture absorbers go inside the container.
Bedrooms and majlis seating
Riyadh bedrooms are often large, with tall wardrobes. We dismantle wardrobes into panels, protect them with cardboard and corners, and put mirrors and glass in separate boxes. Beds are dismantled and mattresses sealed in thick covers. Arabic majlis seating is among the most important things Saudi families ship to their homes in Turkey, since it is made to sizes that are hard to find there, so we wrap cushions, seats and tables individually and arrange them in the container so that nothing presses on them.
Kitchens, including IKEA kitchens
Many modern Riyadh flats have IKEA kitchens, which are easy to dismantle and reassemble if taken apart correctly. We photograph the kitchen before dismantling, number the units, keep each unit’s screws and hinges in a bag, and wrap the front doors with care, since they scratch most easily. Custom aluminium or wooden kitchens are dismantled too, but your Turkish kitchen’s dimensions may differ, so it may need adjusting. Marble worktops travel upright in wooden crates.
Appliances and air conditioners
Window and split air conditioners are common in Riyadh homes, and a technician removes them, recovers the gas and wraps the units. Bear in mind that many homes in Turkey rely on air conditioning less than Riyadh homes do, especially in mountain areas such as Trabzon, so you may not need to ship them all. The fridge is emptied and dried a day before shipping, and the washing machine drum is secured. Turkey uses 220 volts, so check each appliance’s label and prepare plug adaptors.
Antiques and office furniture
For antiques, chandeliers and artwork we build wooden crates to size. Riyadh is home to many companies and offices, and if yours is moving an office to Turkey or opening a branch there, we dismantle desks, filing cabinets and meeting chairs, pack equipment and screens, number everything by department, and agree a loading time with your Riyadh building management, after working hours if needed. Insurance can be added for valuable items on request.

Trucking the container from Riyadh to Jeddah or Dammam port
After loading and sealing at your door, the truck sets off with the container to the port. To Jeddah Islamic Port it takes the highway west towards Taif and then Makkah and Jeddah, a journey of a day or two depending on permitted driving hours. To King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam it takes the Riyadh–Dammam highway east, a shorter trip. Riyadh also has the Riyadh Dry Port, linked to Dammam port by rail, through which some Dammam-bound containers can pass. We follow the truck until the container is handed to the port and let you know when it arrives.

If your furniture is less than a full container, we take it in a closed truck to our warehouse near the port, where it is loaded into the shared container with other shipments to Turkey, with every carton wrapped and numbered in your name so it does not get mixed with others.
Sea freight from Riyadh to Turkey
Sea freight is the core service for Riyadh customers. You have two options: a full container (FCL), 20 ft or 40 ft, for you alone, or a shared container (LCL) where you pay for your volume. A two- or three-bedroom Riyadh flat usually fills a 20 ft container, a villa with its majlis and bedrooms needs a 40 ft, and a large villa may need more than one container.

From Jeddah Islamic Port or King Abdulaziz Port the container sails to Mersin in southern Turkey, Iskenderun, Izmir on the Aegean, or Ambarli in Istanbul. Most Riyadh customers ship to Istanbul, Bursa and Trabzon, so we choose Ambarli for Istanbul and Bursa, and for Trabzon the port that suits the sailing schedule and the inland haul.
| From Riyadh to | Suggested destination port | Sea time, port to port |
|---|---|---|
| Istanbul (European and Asian sides) | Ambarli | 18–25 days |
| Bursa, Yalova and Sakarya | Ambarli | 18–25 days, then a short inland haul |
| Mersin, Adana and Gaziantep | Mersin | 15–20 days |
| Antalya and Konya | Mersin | 15–20 days, then an inland haul |
| Ankara | Mersin or Ambarli | Depends on sailing schedule |
| Izmir | Izmir | Depends on sailing schedule |
| Trabzon | Depends on available sailings | Set in the quote |
Add a day or two for trucking from Riyadh to the port, some days for export procedures and loading, and then clearance in Turkey and delivery. All times are approximate and depend on ship schedules.
Port to door or port to port?
Most Riyadh families choose port to door: our agent clears the container at the Turkish port, a truck takes the furniture to your flat, and it is assembled on request. Port to port suits those with a relative or friend in Turkey who works with a customs clearance agent, or a trader with his own agent: our job ends when the container reaches the port, and the consignee collects it through their Turkish agent. In both cases we give you the bill of lading, contents list and everything the agent needs.
Turkish cities Riyadh customers ship to
- Istanbul – European side: Başakşehir, Esenyurt, Beylikdüzü, Fatih, Bahçeşehir, Avcılar.
- Istanbul – Asian side: Üsküdar, Kadıköy, Ataşehir, Ümraniye, Pendik.
- Bursa: Nilüfer, Osmangazi and Yıldırım.
- Ankara: Çankaya, Etimesgut and Yenimahalle, with many student and employee shipments.
- Trabzon: Uzungöl, Akçaabat and Yomra, a summer destination for many Riyadh families.
- Izmir and Antalya: the west and south coasts.
- Konya, Gaziantep and Mersin: central and southern Turkey.
- Yalova, Sakarya and Sapanca: nature homes near Istanbul.
Istanbul has many tall apartment buildings and narrow streets, so we use an external furniture lift or a smaller truck depending on the address, and ask you to inform the building management of the delivery time. In Trabzon and the highlands we plan delivery around the mountain roads.
Riyadh families with homes in Turkey, students and expats
Many Riyadh families have bought flats in Istanbul or houses in Trabzon, Bursa and Yalova where they spend the summer. They usually ship what they need to furnish the home to their taste: Arabic majlis seating, carpets, kitchenware, familiar appliances and sometimes a full set of furniture. We arrange shipping well before summer, storage in Turkey if the furniture arrives ahead of them, and delivery on the date they choose.
Riyadh also has many expats who move to Turkey to live after their work ends, and students at universities in Istanbul and Ankara. A student usually needs only air freight for two bags and a computer, or a small sea shipment in a shared container, while a relocating family needs a full container and a sailing date coordinated with taking over their Turkish home and leaving their Riyadh one.
Shipping cargo from Riyadh to Turkey
Riyadh is a major commercial centre, with the Al Sulay warehouses and the industrial cities, and traders ship dates and packaged foods, perfumes and oud, plastic products and equipment from here to Turkey. We collect the goods from your warehouse, put them on pallets, load them into the container and take them to the port.
Partial loads for traders and shops
If your goods are a number of pallets or cartons, they go in a shared container priced by volume or weight. This suits small shops and online stores testing the Turkish market before shipping larger quantities.
Full loads and commercial containers
For large quantities we assign a 20 ft or 40 ft container, loaded at your Riyadh warehouse, sealed and taken to the port. Commercial goods start from SAR 2,300 per ton, with the final price depending on the type and volume of goods.
Documents for commercial goods
- Commercial registration.
- Commercial invoice.
- Packing list.
- Certificate of origin.
Some goods may need additional certificates in Turkey, and we review this with the Turkish importer before shipping.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Turkey
The car initially travels from Riyadh to the port, either on a car carrier or inside an enclosed container loaded in Riyadh. It then sails in one of two ways: RoRo, where the car is driven onto a vehicle vessel, secured, and driven off at the Turkish port; or inside a container, secured with straps and chocks, which suits luxury and classic cars or anyone shipping a car with furniture in a 40 ft container.

A sedan starts from SAR 5,100, an SUV from SAR 7,500, and a car in its own enclosed container from SAR 12,000. Turkish port charges, clearance and the car’s customs duties vary with the owner’s status and the type of entry, and are shown in the itemised quote.
Car shipping documents from Riyadh
- Vehicle registration.
- Owner’s ID or iqama.
- Export plates or export certificate.
- A bank letter if the car is financed.
Before you ship your car to Turkey
Car imports into Turkey follow rules that differ by situation: a returning Turkish citizen, a resident with a residence permit, a visitor seeking temporary import, or someone who wants to sell the car there. These rules are set by Turkish Customs and change, and the charges can be substantial for some cars. We therefore advise you to confirm your car’s specific situation with Turkish Customs or the Turkish consulate before shipping. We prepare the export documents with you, and our agent in Turkey handles clearance in accordance with the regulations in force at the time of shipping. We do not allow personal items inside a car shipped by RoRo.
Customs, exemptions and required documents
Your shipment from Riyadh goes through export from the Kingdom via Fasah at Jeddah or Dammam port, then import through Turkish Customs at the destination port. You authorise us on Fasah, and we submit the contents list and documents.
In Turkey, some groups may be exempt from certain charges on used furniture and personal effects, such as a returning Turkish citizen, a foreigner with a residence permit, or someone transferring their residence, provided they submit documents such as a residence permit or a transfer-of-residence certificate. These rules are set by Turkish Customs and change, so we describe them in general terms and advise you to confirm with Turkish Customs or the Turkish consulate before shipping. Anything that does not qualify for an exemption is cleared in accordance with the regulations in force at the time of shipping, with the charges shown in the quote.
Documents for moving furniture from Riyadh
- National ID or iqama.
- Passport.
- Contents list.
- Fasah authorisation.
- Consignee’s details in Turkey: passport, Turkish tax number and address.
Parcels, bags and e-commerce from Riyadh
We send parcels from Riyadh to Turkey every day: clothes and books for students, gifts for relatives, dates and perfumes in season, and documents for procedures in Turkey. A parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 110, documents from SAR 85, and air freight from SAR 14 per kg. We collect the parcel from your Riyadh home or office, pack it and send it from King Khalid Airport.
For Riyadh online stores selling to customers in Turkey we offer regular air freight with a tracking number for each parcel. Remember that air freight is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, with volumetric weight being length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000.
Air freight from King Khalid Airport to Istanbul
From King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh we ship by air to Istanbul Airport, Turkey’s main air cargo hub, to Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side, to Ankara Esenboğa Airport for customers in the Turkish capital, and to Antalya Airport for the south coast. Transit is usually 2–4 days, from SAR 14 per kg.

Air freight suits documents and certificates, urgent spare parts, commercial samples, prescription medicines in permitted quantities and small gifts. It does not suit furniture, because volumetric weight raises the cost sharply.
Prohibited items and packing
We do not accept the following in shipments to Turkey:
- Flammable materials such as petrol, alcohol, paints and aerosols.
- Gas cylinders.
- Loose batteries.
- Medicines without a prescription.
- Plants and seeds without a permit.
Carry cash, jewellery and original documents with you rather than putting them in the container. We pack furniture for sea with layers that protect it from heat on the road from Riyadh and from moisture at sea, and pack air parcels in strong cartons.

We also ship from Turkey to Riyadh: furniture of families returning from living in Turkey, students’ belongings after graduation, and Turkish furniture, carpets and textiles bought by Riyadh residents or imported by traders. The container is loaded in Istanbul, Bursa or Mersin, sails to Jeddah or Dammam, is cleared in accordance with the regulations in force at the time of shipping, and is then trucked to your Riyadh home or warehouse.
When to ship from Riyadh to Turkey
Demand from Riyadh rises before summer, when families prepare to travel to their homes in Turkey, before the academic year, and at the end of employees’ annual contracts. Book early in these periods. In autumn and winter there are more dates available, and well-packed furniture is not affected by the cold at sea. As far as possible we avoid loading during the midday hours of a Riyadh summer and start early in the morning.
