Shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Oman: how a shipment travels
Every shipment to Oman starts with collection from the customer’s door, whether that is a home in Riyadh, a warehouse in Dammam or a shop in Jeddah. Shipments are sorted at our consolidation warehouses by type: furniture goes into closed dedicated or shared trucks, cars go onto carriers, and commercial goods travel on pallets or as full loads. The trucks then head for Al Ahsa and on to the Al Batha–Salwa junction and the Shaybah road until they reach the Empty Quarter crossing, the only direct land border between the two countries that does not pass through a third country.
On the Saudi side, export is filed electronically through the Fasah platform. The truck then crosses to Ramlat Khaylah, where import formalities are completed with Royal Oman Police customs. From Ramlat Khaylah the road links to Ibri, then Nizwa, then Muscat, and from Muscat shipments are distributed to the other governorates. Because the sequence is so clear, transit times are predictable, and we can give you an approximate arrival date as soon as you book.
Why we use the Empty Quarter crossing instead of Al Batha and the UAE
Before the Empty Quarter crossing opened, most shipments went through Al Batha and Ghuwaifat into the UAE and from there to the Omani border. That route still exists, but for most Saudi cities it is a long detour, and it needs UAE transit: two extra border posts, extra paperwork and extra waiting time. The direct Empty Quarter road cuts out that detour, so the shipment deals with just two borders, one Saudi and one Omani.
For household furniture, fewer borders means the truck is opened and inspected fewer times, which protects the packing and reduces the risk of scratches. For cars and cargo it means fewer documents and fewer transit fees. That is why every one of our road trips to Oman uses the direct route. We only switch to the UAE road when a customer asks for it for a specific reason, such as a stop in Dubai or Al Ain.

Distance and transit time from Saudi cities to Muscat
| Origin | Approx. distance to Muscat | Door-to-door time |
|---|---|---|
| Al Ahsa | about 1,150 km | 3–4 days |
| Dammam / Khobar | about 1,250 km | 3–4 days |
| Riyadh | about 1,400 km | 3–5 days (urgent 2–3 days) |
| Qassim | about 1,750 km | 4–6 days |
| Makkah | about 2,250 km | 5–7 days |
| Madinah | about 2,250 km | 5–7 days |
| Khamis Mushait / Abha | about 2,300 km | 5–7 days |
| Jeddah | about 2,350 km | 5–7 days |
| Tabuk | about 2,700 km | 6–8 days |
These times include collection, loading, both border procedures and delivery in Muscat, not just driving. Shipments for Ibri and Al Buraimi usually arrive before Muscat because both are closer to the border, Nizwa arrives at about the same time as Muscat, Sohar and Sur need roughly one more day, Duqm two more days, and Salalah two to three more days, as it lies about 1,000 km from Muscat via Haima.
Why customers choose Al Saif for shipping to Oman
Empty Quarter and Ramlat Khaylah, with no UAE transit.
Carpenters and technicians who take furniture apart in the Kingdom and rebuild it in Oman.
Fasah export filing and Royal Oman Police customs documents.
Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, Ibri, Al Buraimi, Salalah, Sur and Duqm.
We work with families relocating to Oman, Omani employees heading home after years in the Kingdom, traders supplying markets in Muscat and Sohar, and online stores selling to customers in the Sultanate. Each group needs something different, so we build the shipping plan around the type and size of the shipment and the collection and delivery cities, rather than handing everyone the same package.
Furniture moving from Saudi Arabia to Oman with dismantling, packing and assembly
Moving a household across a border is not like moving within a city. The trip is long, the road crosses desert and the truck passes two borders, so furniture needs stronger packing and more careful loading. We start with a home visit or video call to survey your contents, then choose the right vehicle: a dedicated dyna for a two- or three-room apartment, a larger lorry for a full house, or a trailer for a big villa.

Bedrooms, kitchens and majlis seating
Bedrooms are dismantled piece by piece: bed, wardrobes and dressing table. Screws and hinges go into numbered bags tied to each piece, surfaces are wrapped in foam and then heavy cardboard, and mirrors travel in wooden crates. Aluminium and wooden kitchens are taken apart and every unit is numbered so it goes back in the same order, with marble worktops wrapped separately. Majlis seating and sofas are covered in bubble wrap and heat-resistant film against dust and road heat, and carpets are rolled, never folded.
Appliances and antiques
Fridges and washing machines are emptied and dried the day before, washing-machine drums are locked with transit bolts, and fridges travel upright. TVs go into dedicated cartons with foam layers, and air conditioners are removed by a technician who recovers the gas properly. Antiques, crockery and crystal are wrapped piece by piece in boxes marked fragile and this-way-up, and loaded at the top of the truck away from pressure. Insurance can be added for valuable items on request.
Office furniture
For companies opening a branch in Oman or relocating an office, we dismantle desks, filing cabinets, chairs and workstations, pack computers, printers and servers carefully, and number every box by department and floor of the new office, so the layout in Muscat or Sohar comes together quickly and staff are back at work without a long gap.

On arrival, our team in Oman unloads and carries everything in, assembles bedrooms, wardrobes and the kitchen, places each piece where you want it and clears away the packing. You move into a home ready to live in, not a pile of boxes.
Commercial cargo from Saudi Arabia to Oman
Omani buyers have similar tastes and needs to Saudi ones, so many traders supply building materials, household goods, clothing, food and personal-care products from the Kingdom to Oman. We offer two main options to fit any trader’s volume.
Part loads by tonne or pallet
If your goods do not fill a whole truck, they travel in a shared load priced by tonne or by pallet, starting from SAR 890 per tonne. This suits small traders and stores sending regular batches, because you pay only for the space you use.
Full loads on a dedicated truck
For large volumes or goods that must arrive fast, a truck is dedicated to you from your warehouse to the consignee’s, starting from SAR 4,190. It does not wait for other customers’ cargo and is not unloaded at an intermediate warehouse, so there is less handling and the goods arrive as they left.
What is allowed and what is prohibited
Furniture, appliances, clothing, packaged food, dates, building materials, spare parts, tools and other regular goods can be shipped. Flammables, gas cylinders, loose batteries not fitted in their devices, medicines without a prescription, and plants and seeds without a permit cannot. Some goods may also need specific approvals from the competent Omani authorities, according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping, so we review your packing list before loading to keep the shipment from being held at the border.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman
Cars travel by road on dedicated multi-car carriers, each strapped down at the wheels so it cannot move on the long road. Prices start from SAR 1,690 for a sedan, SAR 2,290 for an SUV and SAR 2,300 on an enclosed carrier for luxury or classic cars that need protection from sun and dust. Delivery to Salalah starts from SAR 3,190 because of the extra distance inside Oman.

Papers needed for a car
- Valid vehicle registration (istimara).
- The owner’s ID or iqama.
- Export plates or an export certificate from the traffic department.
- A bank letter if the car is financed or mortgaged.
Empty the car of personal items, leave about a quarter tank of fuel and photograph it from every side at handover. We also record the car’s condition in photos at collection and again at delivery in Oman, so both sides have a clear record.
Boxes, parcels, bags and online-store orders
Not everyone shipping to Oman needs a truck. Many customers send a box of clothes, gifts for family or an overweight suitcase. A small parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 42, a box or bag up to 30 kg starts from SAR 165, and multiple boxes on a shared load start from SAR 7.5 per kg.
For online stores with customers in Oman, we collect orders from the store’s warehouse in the Kingdom, ship them together to a distribution point in Muscat and deliver them to each address from there. This lowers the cost per order compared with sending every order on its own, and gives the store a fixed dispatch day it can share with its customers.
Dates, perfumes and heat-sensitive goods
The Empty Quarter road runs through open desert, and summer heat inside a truck can harm some goods. Dates can lose quality or stick together, perfumes and oud oil can change or leak, and chocolate and cosmetics can melt or spoil. We do not run refrigerated trucks on this line, but we protect these goods in practical ways:
- Dates packed in sealed containers inside cartons lined with thermal layers.
- Each perfume bottle wrapped individually, caps sealed, standing upright in padded boxes.
- These cartons loaded in the middle of the truck, away from sun-heated walls and roof.
- Loading scheduled at night or early morning in the summer months.
- Air freight suggested for small, very sensitive quantities.
Customs and documents between Saudi Arabia and Oman
Customs is the part that worries most customers, and we handle it from start to finish. In the Kingdom, the export declaration is filed on Fasah under your authorisation; at Ramlat Khaylah, import formalities are completed with Royal Oman Police customs. Documents depend on the shipment:
| Shipment type | Documents needed |
|---|---|
| Furniture and personal effects | ID or iqama, passport, contents list, Fasah authorisation, Omani consignee details (civil ID or resident card and mobile number) |
| Car | Registration, owner’s ID, export plates or certificate, bank letter if financed |
| Commercial goods | Commercial registration, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and a health certificate for food |
The exemption for used personal effects
Used furniture and personal effects belonging to someone moving to or returning to Oman may be exempt from customs duty or receive special treatment, under conditions set by the regulations in force at the time of shipping, for example that the items are used, in personal rather than commercial quantities, and accompanied by the required documents. We review each customer’s situation before shipping and explain what applies. New goods or large quantities are treated as commercial cargo.
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Oman
These are starting prices for every Saudi city. The final cost is set once we know the volume, weight, type of shipment and delivery city in Oman:

| Box or bag up to 30 kg | starts from SAR 165 |
| Boxes per kg (shared load) | starts from SAR 7.5 per kg |
| One room with dismantling, packing and assembly | starts from SAR 1,090 |
| Apartment, 2–3 rooms (dedicated dyna) | starts from SAR 1,850 |
| Full house | starts from SAR 3,250 |
| Villa (trailer) | starts from SAR 5,900 |
| Sedan | starts from SAR 1,690 |

| Commercial goods per tonne (part load or pallets) | starts from SAR 890 per tonne |
| Dedicated truck | starts from SAR 4,190 |
| Air freight | starts from SAR 42 per kg |
Origins far from the border, such as Tabuk, Jeddah, Madinah and Khamis Mushait, and deliveries to Salalah and Dhofar cost more with distance. The itemised quote we send after the survey confirms the final price.
How to save on shipping to Oman
- Sell or give away furniture you will not use; every cubic metre counts.
- Choose a shared load if you are not in a hurry; it costs less than a dedicated truck.
- Book early before busy seasons to secure space on a suitable trip.
- Have all documents ready so the shipment is not delayed at the border.
- Send your boxes in one shipment instead of several small ones.
Road, air or sea? Comparing the options to Oman
| Factor | Road | Air | Sea |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time | 3–8 days by city | 1–3 days | Longer, by vessel schedule |
| Suits | Furniture, cars, cargo | Urgent parcels, documents, samples | Large commercial containers |
| Cost | Moderate, good for volume | Higher per kg | Low for very large volumes |
| Door to door | Yes | Yes, with delivery | Needs road haulage to and from port |
The simple rule: furniture and cars always go by road, because the direct route takes them to the door without extra handling; small urgent parcels fly; and large commercial container loads can go by sea.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Muscat and Salalah
When time matters more than cost, air freight is the answer. We ship from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, plus other city airports, to Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport, arriving in 1–3 days. Prices start from SAR 42 per kg, charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, where volumetric weight = length × width × height (cm) ÷ 6000.

Example: a 60 × 50 × 40 cm box weighing 15 kg has a volumetric weight of 120,000 ÷ 6000 = 20 kg, so it is charged at 20 kg. That is why we pack air shipments as compactly as protection allows.
Sea containers for traders: Dammam and Jeddah to Sohar and Salalah
For importers and factories shipping large volumes, sea containers lower the cost per tonne. We arrange containers from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam or Jeddah Islamic Port to Sohar Port or Salalah Port, with clearance at both ports and road haulage from factory to port and from port to the consignee’s warehouse. This option is for commercial goods; household furniture and cars go by road because it is faster and involves less handling.

Coverage inside the Sultanate of Oman
We deliver to every governorate in Oman. Most requests go to:
Muscat and its districts
We deliver in Al Khuwair, Al Mawaleh, Bawshar, Al Seeb, Qurum, Muttrah, Ruwi and the rest of the capital. Al Khuwair and Qurum see many office and apartment moves, Al Mawaleh and Al Seeb have villas and family homes that need full furniture assembly, and Muttrah and Ruwi have shops receiving goods.
Sohar, Al Buraimi, Ibri and Nizwa
Sohar is an industrial centre and major port in the north. Al Buraimi and Ibri are close to Ramlat Khaylah, so shipments reach them before Muscat. Nizwa, in the heart of Ad Dakhiliyah, arrives at about the same time as Muscat.
Salalah, Sur and Duqm
Salalah, in Dhofar in the south, lies about 1,000 km from Muscat via Haima and needs two to three extra days. Sur on the east coast needs one extra day, and Duqm in Al Wusta two. We run dedicated trips or regular distribution lines to these cities.
| Omani city | Timing compared with Muscat |
|---|---|
| Ibri, Al Buraimi | Earlier than Muscat |
| Nizwa | Same as Muscat |
| Sohar, Sur | About +1 day |
| Duqm | +2 days |
| Salalah | +2–3 days |

Tracking and storage
We send updates at the main stages: loading, arrival at the Empty Quarter crossing, clearance at Ramlat Khaylah and dispatch for delivery. You can also contact your shipment coordinator at any time to find out where it is. If your new home in Oman is not ready yet, or you are waiting for keys, we offer storage in closed warehouses before shipping in the Kingdom or after arrival, priced by volume and duration.
Shipping from Oman to Saudi Arabia
We also work in reverse: we collect furniture, cars and goods from Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, Salalah and other cities and deliver them to any Saudi city on the same direct route, Ramlat Khaylah then the Empty Quarter. The return route needs Omani export and Saudi import formalities according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping, and we coordinate them with you.
When is a good time to ship to Oman?
Winter and spring are the easiest months on the desert road: temperatures are mild and sensitive goods are not affected. Summer is when many families move because of holidays and the end of the school year, so demand rises and trucks fill quickly; we recommend booking about two weeks ahead. Before Ramadan and the Eids, shipments of dates, perfumes, gifts and food to Omani markets increase, so traders do well to send early before the border gets busy.
Tips before shipping anything to Oman
Prepare a detailed contents list; customs needs it, and it helps you check that everything arrived. Photograph furniture and valuable appliances before packing. Keep important documents, gold and cash with you rather than in the shipment. Double-check the consignee’s mobile number and address in Oman, as these are the reference at delivery. And if you have valuable items, insurance can be added for valuable items on request.
