Shipping from UAE to Saudi Arabia: how the shipment moves

The practical way to move furniture, cars and boxes from the UAE to Saudi Arabia is by road. An enclosed truck carries the contents of your home and can reach the door of your building or villa in the Saudi city you are moving to, without passing through ports or waiting for vessel schedules. That is why Al Saif uses road freight for every family and personal shipment, keeps sea freight for full commercial containers, and uses air freight for parcels, documents and urgent items.

The trip starts at your address in the UAE. Our team dismantles, packs and numbers your furniture, then moves it to the consolidation point where the truck is loaded. The truck heads west along the coastal road through Abu Dhabi to Ghuwaifat, the UAE exit point. Across the line is the Saudi Al Batha crossing, where customs clearance takes place, and from there the truck continues to Riyadh, the Eastern Province, or the west and south of the Kingdom.

The total time depends on three things: the emirate you ship from, the Saudi city you deliver to, and processing time at both crossings. A shipment leaving Abu Dhabi is about half a day closer to the border than one leaving Dubai, while Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah add roughly half a day to a day.

Why road, not sea, for furniture and cars?

Sea freight from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Dammam or Jeddah suits a trader filling a full container with one consignment. A family moving an apartment, or an employee moving a car, gets door delivery, fewer handling steps and a shorter trip by road. So we do not ship household furniture or cars by sea on this route.

Ghuwaifat and Al Batha: the only land crossing

One land crossing links the UAE and Saudi Arabia: Ghuwaifat on the UAE side and Al Batha on the Saudi side. Every truck from the UAE to the Kingdom passes here, whether it set off from Dubai, Fujairah or Al Ain. At Ghuwaifat the UAE exit formalities are completed; the truck then crosses to Al Batha, where the shipment details are submitted to ZATCA, the contents are inspected and clearance is issued.

Paperwork prepared before loading is what keeps the crossing smooth. The numbered contents list, copies of your passport and Saudi ID or iqama, and the consignee’s details in Saudi Arabia are all ready before the truck moves, so it does not wait at the border for a missing document.

What happens at Al Batha?

  • The shipment details and contents list are submitted to Saudi customs.
  • Some boxes may be opened for inspection, so we number every box and note its contents.
  • Any applicable duties are calculated according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping.
  • Once cleared, the truck continues to the Saudi city on your booking.

Delivery to every Saudi city, with times

Shipping does not stop at Riyadh and the Eastern Province. Al Saif delivers to any city in the Kingdom, and the time depends on how far the city is from Al Batha. Approximate door-to-door times for a shipment leaving Dubai:

Saudi city By road from Dubai By air
Riyadh 2–4 days 1–2 days
Dammam and Khobar 2–4 days 1–2 days
Al Ahsa 2–4 days via Dammam airport
Qassim (Buraydah, Unaizah) 3–5 days via Riyadh airport
Jeddah 4–6 days 1–2 days
Makkah 4–6 days via Jeddah airport
Madinah 4–6 days via Jeddah airport
Tabuk 5–7 days via Jeddah or Riyadh airport
Abha and Khamis Mushait 5–7 days via Jeddah or Riyadh airport

Shipments from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain arrive about half a day sooner; shipments from Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah need roughly half a day to a day more. We also deliver to Taif, Hail, Jubail, Al Kharj, Jazan, Najran and other cities, with the time confirmed in your quote.

Pickup across all seven emirates

Our team comes to your address in any emirate. The main areas we collect from every day:

  • Dubai: Al Barsha, Deira, Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).
  • Abu Dhabi: Khalifa City, Mussafah, Al Reem Island and Al Ain.
  • Sharjah: Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Al Khan.
  • Ras Al Khaimah: Al Nakheel, Al Hamra.
  • Umm Al Quwain: the old town and Al Salamah.
  • Fujairah: Fujairah city and Dibba.
  • Ajman: all areas, on the Sharjah collection run.

Each emirate has its own guide with more detail on its areas and times; the links are at the end of this page.

Shipping from Dubai to Saudi Arabia

Dubai accounts for many of the families moving to the Kingdom, and most of them live in towers. So coordination starts with the move-out permit and the service-lift booking, and then the loading time is set. From Dubai, shipments reach Riyadh and the Eastern Province in 2–4 days. We also collect traders’ goods from Jebel Ali and Al Quoz.

Shipping from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to Saudi Arabia

Abu Dhabi sits directly on the road to Ghuwaifat, so its shipments arrive about half a day ahead of Dubai’s. We collect from Khalifa City, Al Reem Island and Mussafah, and from Al Ain, where many families live in large villas that often need a dedicated truck.

Shipping from Sharjah and the northern emirates

Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah are further from the border, adding roughly half a day to a day. We group their shipments on regular runs so you do not wait for a full truck.

Shipping from Fujairah to Saudi Arabia

Fujairah and Dibba are on the east coast, and the road crosses the mountains towards Dubai and then Abu Dhabi, so they also need about half a day to a day more. Pickup is timed to match trucks heading to the border.

Your shipment day by day

Stage What happens
Pickup day Dismantling, packing, numbering and the contents list, then loading.
Next day Arrival at Ghuwaifat and UAE exit, then crossing to Al Batha for clearance.
After clearance On to Riyadh or the Eastern Province, or onward to Qassim and the west and south.
Delivery day A call to the consignee before arrival, then unloading, assembly and a check against the list.

Pre-shipping checklist

  • Get the move-out permit from your building management and book the service lift.
  • Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer a day early and leave them open.
  • Keep passports, documents and gold in a bag that stays with you.
  • Mark clearly any items that are not being shipped.
  • Send the consignee in Saudi Arabia the expected arrival time and the driver’s number.
  • Confirm the Saudi customs conditions that apply to your belongings.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Does the quote include dismantling, packing and assembly, or transport only?
  • Is delivery to your door or to a warehouse?
  • Will you get a numbered contents list?
  • How will you follow the shipment after it leaves the UAE?
  • Is the truck shared or dedicated, and when does it leave?

Shipping prices from UAE to Saudi Arabia

These are Al Saif’s starting prices; the final cost is set once we know the size of the shipment and the pickup and delivery addresses:

Shipment Starts from
Parcel up to 5 kg SAR 65
Boxes (per kg) SAR 7.5
One room of furniture SAR 880
2–3 bedroom apartment SAR 2,300
Villa SAR 5,100
Sedan SAR 1,100
SUV SAR 1,400
Car on an enclosed carrier SAR 2,300
Pallet of goods SAR 750
Full truck SAR 6,500

The further the Saudi city is from Al Batha, the higher the price, so delivery to Tabuk or Abha differs from delivery to Riyadh or Dammam. The itemised quote we send you confirms the final amount before you pay anything.

What sets the cost of your shipment?

  • The volume of furniture or the weight of boxes.
  • The emirate you ship from.
  • The Saudi city you deliver to.
  • Extras: dismantling and assembly, extra packing, storage and insurance.
  • Shared or dedicated truck.

How to save on shipping

  • The cheapest way to move a few items is a shared truck, splitting the trip cost with other shipments.
  • Get rid of old pieces before shipping instead of paying to move them.
  • Pack light boxes yourself and leave large furniture to the packing team.
  • Book early so you can choose the right departure.

Furniture moving from UAE to Saudi Arabia

Moving a whole home from the UAE to the Kingdom has three stages: preparation in the UAE, the trip through the border, and assembly in your new home. Al Saif’s team handles each stage, so responsibility is never split between companies.

Stage one: dismantling and packing in the UAE

The team dismantles bedrooms, wardrobes and tables and keeps screws and small parts in numbered bags tied to each piece. Wood is wrapped in bubble wrap and heavy cardboard, mattresses go in fitted covers, and glassware goes in divided boxes. Every piece is numbered and recorded on the contents list presented at the border.

If you live in a tower, building managements in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah usually require a move-out permit and an advance service-lift booking. We remind you of both ahead of time and set the loading hour to suit the building’s rules.

Stage two: the trip through the border

Items are loaded into an enclosed truck, heavy at the bottom and light on top, and strapped so nothing shifts on the road. The truck stays in contact with us all the way through Al Batha.

Stage three: assembly in your new home

On arrival the team unloads the truck, carries pieces to the rooms you choose, assembles bedrooms and wardrobes and puts everything in place. Items are checked against the contents list in front of you before the team leaves.

Appliances, kitchens and air conditioners

Fridges, washing machines and TVs are each packed separately; the fridge must be emptied and dried a day before shipping. Fitted kitchens and AC units can be removed in the UAE if they are yours, and we tell you in advance what will need a fitter in Saudi Arabia.

Car shipping from UAE to Saudi Arabia

Your car travels on a professional car carrier from your UAE address to your Saudi address. There are two options: an open multi-car carrier, from SAR 1,100 for a sedan and SAR 1,400 for an SUV, and an enclosed carrier for new and luxury cars, from SAR 2,300.

Car documents

  • UAE vehicle registration (Mulkiya).
  • Export certificate from the traffic department of the emirate where the car is registered.
  • The owner’s papers: passport, Emirates ID, and Saudi ID or iqama.

Conditions for importing and clearing a car into Saudi Arabia are set by ZATCA and change over time, so please confirm them before shipping according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping. We help you find out what applies to your car.

Before handing over the car

  • Photograph the car from every side.
  • Leave only a little fuel in the tank.
  • Remove personal items from inside.
  • Give the team one key and keep the spare.

Boxes and gifts from UAE to Saudi Arabia

If you have only a few things, you do not need a full home move. A parcel up to 5 kg starts from SAR 65 and boxes from SAR 7.5 per kg, travelling on shared trucks to your city. This suits students, people sending clothes and gifts to family, and anyone moving in stages.

Write the consignee’s name, mobile number and city on every box and put a contents list on top. Avoid large perfumes and aerosols inside boxes.

Commercial goods from UAE to Saudi Arabia

For traders and companies we offer three sizes: a pallet of goods from SAR 750, a full truck from SAR 6,500, and a full sea container from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Dammam or Jeddah port. We collect from warehouses in Jebel Ali and Al Quoz in Dubai, Mussafah in Abu Dhabi and the Sharjah industrial areas.

Commercial goods need a commercial invoice, a packing list and a certificate of origin. They are cleared at Al Batha for road freight or at the Saudi port for sea freight, according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping.

Office and company relocation

When a company moves its office or branch from the UAE to the Kingdom, we dismantle desks and cabinets, pack computers and printers individually, and number boxes by department and room so the new office can be set up quickly. Files and archives go in sealed, numbered boxes, and loading can be scheduled after working hours if you ask, so your business stops for as little time as possible.

Sea freight for commercial containers

A sea container suits large, non-urgent volumes of goods. It is loaded at Jebel Ali or Khalifa and arrives at Dammam on the Gulf or Jeddah on the Red Sea, depending on where your warehouse is. Household furniture and cars go by road, as above.

Air freight from UAE to Saudi Arabia

For urgent shipments such as documents, prescribed medicines, spare parts or commercial samples, air freight delivers in 1–2 days to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah or King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. We collect from your UAE address and deliver to your Saudi address.

Air freight from the UAE to Saudi airports — Al Saif

How is air freight priced?

On actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. A light but bulky box may be charged on its size rather than its weight, which is why we ask for the dimensions before quoting.

Customs and documents

Documents depend on the type of shipment. The core list:

Shipment Documents
Furniture and personal effects Passport, Saudi ID or iqama (or a visa for new residents), contents list, consignee details in Saudi Arabia.
Car UAE registration (Mulkiya), traffic export certificate, owner’s papers.
Commercial goods Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin.

Used personal effects and returning residents

Personal effects, used furniture, and citizens or residents returning to the Kingdom are treated under customs rules set by ZATCA, and those rules change over time. So we do not rely on old information: please confirm the conditions that apply to you before shipping, according to the regulations in force at the time of shipping, and we prepare the paperwork on that basis.

Prohibited items

  • Flammable materials.
  • Gas cylinders.
  • Loose batteries.
  • Medicines without a prescription.
  • Plants without a permit.

Storage before shipping or after arrival

You may have to leave your UAE home before your Saudi home is ready. In that case we keep your furniture packed in a warehouse until the new home is ready, then ship or deliver it on the date you choose. Storage is added to the quote by volume and duration.

Shipment insurance

Insurance for valuable items can be added on request. On every shipment, items are recorded on a numbered contents list and checked at delivery in front of you.

Tracking over WhatsApp

After loading you receive the truck’s photo and number on WhatsApp, an update when it leaves Ghuwaifat, another when clearance is issued at Al Batha, and the arrival time in your city a day ahead. You can ask at any time on 0555915287.
