❄️ Hail’s moving calendar

  • Winter: very cold mornings and passing rain, so we start after sunrise and cover the load.

  • Summer: hot and dry, with work at dawn or after Asr.
  • From: SAR 280 per room, SAR 360 per apartment, SAR 45 for a dabab.

Hail is a mid-sized city and distances between districts are short, so the price is driven mostly by the real size of the home. A Hail house often has a large majlis, sometimes an outdoor annex, a fireplace room or a tent in the yard, and all of it is volume. Then come the kitchen, AC units and any walk-up floor. Moves to Qufar or Aqdah add a road charge. You get the confirmed figure once we have seen photos or done a free visit.

Old houses in central Hail

Around Barzan and Libdah there are older single-storey houses with courtyards and wide iron gates, and some sit on inner streets a long dyna cannot turn into. They are easy in one way, because there are no stairs, and hard in another, because years of belongings have built up on the roof, in the storeroom and in a heavy majlis. Sort what goes and what stays a few days before the move, because moving things you will never use only adds trips. Where the street is tight, the dyna waits on the nearest open road and a dabab or the crew on foot brings pieces out.

Students, staff and farms

The University of Hail generates a steady flow of small moves: a student changing housing, or a new staff member furnishing a small flat. A pickup with two movers is enough, from SAR 140, and a dabab for a fridge or washer starts from SAR 45. New furniture from local showrooms can be delivered and assembled, with the carpenter from SAR 140 per room.

There are many farms around Hail. Some families live on them; others take hospitality furniture out for certain seasons. Farm tracks can be dirt and gates narrow, so a photo of the entrance decides the vehicle, and if needed we load at the gate and use a hand trolley. Metal garden furniture and shades are wrapped apart from wooden pieces.

Winter moves

Hail’s winter is genuinely cold, and some mornings come close to freezing. That changes the day: we start once the sun is up rather than at dawn, because cold hands slip and stretch film stiffens. Rain comes in bursts, sometimes heavy, so mattresses and cartons never wait in the yard, and the load is covered or carried in a closed box. Many homes have oil and gas heaters and fireplaces. Oil heaters travel upright; gas heaters are disconnected and the cylinder never rides with the furniture. Winter is also when rest-house and camp furniture goes out to Aja and the edges of the city: floor seating, tents and shades that we dismantle, wrap and bundle.

Packing against dust

Wind off the Nafud carries a fine dust that finds every gap. Sofas, mattresses and floor seating are sealed in full plastic, drawers are emptied and taped shut, electronics go in closed cartons and TVs between rigid boards with foam corners. Dishes and glass go in divided cartons, mirrors upright and marked, and every carton is taped on both sides and labelled with its room.

Dismantling and assembly

Bedrooms come apart in a fixed order: drawers and shelves, doors, wardrobe body, bed. Screws are bagged on their piece and large panels numbered. Wall wardrobes in older houses are taken down carefully, since some have been fixed to the wall for years. Kitchens start with measuring the new space, then upper cabinets, lower cabinets and worktop. A technician removes split ACs after recovering the gas, and TV and curtain fitting are available on request.

Winch and vehicles

Most Hail homes are one or two floors, so the winch is mainly for three-storey walk-ups or a large sofa on a narrow inner stair, from SAR 185.

  • Dabab: one or two items, or a tight lane in the old quarters.
  • Pickup: a University of Hail student’s room.
  • Dyna: a two- or three-bedroom apartment.
  • Closed truck: villas, dusty or rainy days, and runs to nearby towns.

Moves to Qufar and Aqdah

Qufar and Aqdah are close enough that many people work in Hail and live there, or the other way round. We treat these as extended local moves: the same crew dismantles, loads, drives a short way and assembles the same day. The road trip is a separate line in the quote, the load is strapped because speeds are higher than between districts, and on windy days we prefer a closed box because the open road throws up more dust than city streets.

Included and extra

Included: dismantling, standard packing, loading, transport within Hail, carrying into rooms and assembly. Extras on request: winch, kitchen, ACs, premium packing, storage, cleaning, TV and curtain fitting, and the road charge to nearby towns. Every item appears in the quote before moving day.

Example: Al Wasita apartment to an Al Khuzama villa

An employee and his family lived on the third floor of a walk-up in Al Wasita and moved in winter to a villa in Al Khuzama. They had three bedrooms, a floor majlis, a large sofa, a fridge, a washer, three ACs, a kitchen to refit and two heaters. The sofa and fridge would not pass the stairs, so the winch was booked for them. One closed dyna, four movers, a carpenter and an AC technician started an hour after sunrise and finished assembly by mid-afternoon. Cost started from SAR 360 for the flat, SAR 185 for the winch, SAR 345 for the ACs and SAR 370 for the kitchen: from SAR 1,260 in total, confirmed after photos.

Before the day, timing and offers

  • Defrost the fridge and drain oil heaters if you can, or tell us about them.
  • Disconnect gas cylinders from heaters and the cooker and keep them out of the load.
  • Photograph TV and router cables; check power, water and heating at the new home.
  • Keep gold, cash, deeds, documents, medicines, laptops and hard drives with you. No fuel, charcoal, pesticides or open paint in the truck.

Spring and autumn are the easiest seasons if you watch the wind. Summer means dawn or after-Asr work; winter means a start after sunrise. The last days of the month and the school breaks book up fast, and during Ramadan our hours shift to after Asr and into the night. A mid-month, wind-free day is what we suggest when you are flexible.

Be wary of a figure given before anyone asks about the floor, majlis, kitchen or ACs; it will probably change. A clear quote lists items, names the vehicle and confirms who assembles. Do not pay in full before work starts. If you want the bill lower, box up the small things yourself, clear out what you will not use, and choose a date in the middle of the month.

If the new home is not ready, we store furniture wrapped on pallets in a closed warehouse protected from dust and rain, and cleaning of either home is an optional extra. Common mistakes: packing a gas cylinder with its heater, leaving mattresses in the yard on a cloudy day, starting at dawn on a freezing morning, forgetting the annex and fireplace room in the quote, and pulling AC pipes without a technician.

Moving beyond Hail

We also move between cities: from Hail to Qassim, Riyadh, Al Jouf, Tabuk, the Eastern Province, Jeddah and elsewhere, and into Hail from them, in closed trucks with heavier packing and a strapped load. We also reach Baqaa, Al Ghazalah, Ash Shinan, Mawqaq and other towns in the region. Request your Hail moving quote with photos.
