Furniture Moving from Riyadh to Al Baha | Damp-Proof Packing and a Safe Climb to the Plateau
Al Baha is a mountain city, and moving there from the capital means planning for the climb, the fog and the sloping streets, not just the distance. Al Saif handles the whole job: dismantling and wrapping your furniture in Riyadh, loading it into a closed truck, driving roughly 900 km via Al Rain and up onto the plateau, then unloading and reassembling it in your new home. Driving takes about 9–10 hours with rests, and delivery is usually the next day. Furniture moving from Riyadh to Al Baha starts from SAR 700 for a room or small load and from SAR 1,120 for a two- or three-bedroom apartment, rising with volume, floors and distance. Send photos through the quote request page to get your price.

Why furniture moving from Riyadh to Al Baha needs its own plan
Moving to a coastal city or somewhere in central Najd is mostly about the road and the heat. Al Baha adds three things we deal with on every trip. First, the last part of the journey is uphill, and a loaded truck climbs slowly, so the load has to be strapped well enough that nothing leans. Second, fog covers the heights for much of the year and rain can arrive without warning. Third, some districts and villages have steep, narrow streets where a large truck cannot pull up at every door.
That is why we ask about your Al Baha home before we ask about your Riyadh one: where it is, what the entrance is like, and whether the street can take a truck. The answers decide the truck size and whether we need a smaller vehicle for the last stretch.
Prices for moving furniture from Riyadh to Al Baha
| What you are moving | Starting price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single room or small load | from SAR 700 | suits students and single employees |
| Two- to three-bedroom apartment | from SAR 1,120 | includes bedroom dismantling, wrapping and assembly |
| Four- to five-room home | from SAR 1,850 | large truck and bigger crew |
| Villa | from SAR 2,300 | after a survey or photos; may need two trucks |
Kitchens, air conditioners and hoisting are added as needed. If you need a local move inside Al Baha after arriving, a room starts from SAR 280, an apartment from SAR 450 and a villa from SAR 900. Hoisting there starts from SAR 370, because working on slopes is harder.
What pushes the price up or down
- Load size and the number of large pieces.
- A wooden kitchen that needs taking down and refitting.
- The floor in Riyadh and in Al Baha, and whether there is a lift.
- Location: in the city, in an outlying village, or down in Tihama below the escarpment.
- Load type: a full truck for your furniture only, or space shared with another trip south.
The road: from Al Rain up to the plateau
We leave Riyadh on the Al Rain road, which most travellers to Al Baha use because it is the shorter option. It is a long desert highway, very hot in summer, with well-known rest areas along the way. Before Bisha the road turns west towards Al Baha, passing through Al Aqiq governorate in the foothills, and from there the climb into Al Baha city begins.

The climb isn’t a sharp escarpment like the descent to Tihama, but it is a long rise where a loaded truck needs a steady, gentle speed and good brakes. There is also a longer route through Taif and then south via Al Mandaq, which we use if there is a stop in Taif or the customer asks for it. Both routes have routine checkpoints where household goods need nothing more than the load details.
Distances to Al Baha and its governorates
| Destination | Approx. distance from Riyadh | Driving with rests | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Aqiq | about 850 km | around 9 hours | before the climb; the airport is here |
| Al Baha city | about 900 km | 9–10 hours | morning arrival suits unloading |
| Baljurashi | about 930 km | around 10 hours | south of Al Baha on the mountain road |
| Al Mandaq | about 930 km | around 10 hours | north of Al Baha, closer from the Taif side |
| Al Makhwah and Qilwah | about 980–1,000 km | 11–12 hours | descent to Tihama, needs arranging |
A realistic timeline
Day one: the crew arrives at your Riyadh home in the morning, dismantles beds, wardrobes and the kitchen, wraps everything, then loads and straps it. A three-bedroom flat is usually done around midday or a little after.
Overnight: the truck leaves in the afternoon or at dawn, with a rest stop halfway. We prefer to reach Al Baha in the morning rather than at night, because climbing in night fog is slower and unloading in daylight is safer.
Day two: unloading, boxes placed in their rooms, then bedrooms assembled first. A villa or large house can run into the morning of day three.
Packing for a long road and damp air
The trip starts in hot, dry air and ends in cool, damp air that may come with fog or drizzle. Bare wood reacts to that, and ordinary cardboard softens when it gets wet. So we pack to protect against both rubbing and moisture.

- Wooden surfaces: blanket or foam, then a tight film layer that keeps damp out.
- Mattresses: sealed plastic bags; a mattress that gets wet does not dry easily in Al Baha’s air.
- Cartons: heavy-duty, taped on both sides, kept away from the truck door.
- Glass and ornaments: foam and paper between items, cardboard corners, carried in the middle of the box.
- Appliances: fridge fully dried the day before, washing machine drum secured.
Loading and strapping before the climb
On an uphill road, anything that isn’t tied down leans backwards. So heavy items go on the floor at the front, dismantled wardrobes stand upright and tight together, every row is strapped, and gaps are filled with blankets. Heavy cartons go at the bottom, light ones above, and nothing goes on the glass.

If your Riyadh flat is on an upper floor with no lift, or a piece won’t go through the stairwell, we use a hoist. In Al Baha many homes sit on terraces or slopes, so we may need a hoist there too, or a short hand-carry from where the truck can stop.
Full truck or shared load?
For a complete home we recommend a full truck for your furniture alone: you pick the departure and it drives straight to you. A shared load suits a room or a few pieces and costs less, but it waits for another trip to the region and delivery can slip by a day or two. We never use an open truck on this route; Al Baha’s rain and fog are unforgiving to anything not under a roof.
Dismantling and assembly
In Riyadh we take apart what needs to come apart: beds, wardrobes, large dining tables, kitchens, wall shelving. In Al Baha we rebuild in the order that makes the home liveable on day one: bedrooms, then the kitchen, then the majlis and living room. If the kitchen needs adjusting to fit the new wall, the carpenter measures and shows you the solution before cutting anything.
Air conditioners are removed and refitted on request. Many people moving to Al Baha don’t reinstall them all; summers there are mild, and some households need heaters in winter more than they need AC.
From Riyadh districts to Al Baha districts
We collect from every district in Riyadh. Many of our Al Baha moves start in west and central Riyadh, in Al Suwaidi, Al Uraija, Dhahrat Laban, Namar and Al Malaz, and in northern areas such as Al Yasmin and Al Sahafa. Some of these are families from the region going home after years of work in Riyadh, with older furniture that means a lot to them, and we look after it the way they would.
| Area | Districts and places we deliver to | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Al Baha city | Al Dhafeer, Al Hawiyah, Shahbah, Raghadan, Al Baher, Al Hazem, Al Masif | some streets steep and narrow |
| South of Al Baha | Baljurashi and surroundings | mountain road, arranged ahead |
| North of Al Baha | Al Mandaq and Bani Hassan | scattered villages; may need a smaller vehicle |
| East of Al Baha | Al Aqiq | easier terrain, before the climb |
| Tihama | Al Makhwah, Qilwah | escarpment descent, timing planned carefully |
Weather on the road and in Al Baha
In summer the desert section is extremely hot and the closed box heats up, so candles, perfume, food and medicines should stay out of it. In Al Baha itself fog is a regular visitor, especially early morning and evening, and summer brings afternoon rain. We arrive in the morning once the fog lifts and pause unloading if the rain gets heavy. Winter is cold in Al Baha; moving then is fine, but make sure the house has electricity and water connected before we arrive.
Insurance and storage
Insurance for valuable pieces is available on request, with the value agreed before loading. If your Al Baha home is being renovated or hasn’t been handed over yet, we can arrange temporary storage until it is ready; just tell us before the moving day.
Sending urgent items by air
Furniture travels by road, but what you need straight away can go ahead of you: documents, a work computer, a few days of clothes, school papers. We send them as domestic air cargo from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to King Saud Airport at Al Aqiq, which serves Al Baha, usually within one to two days.
Air cargo is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000. Two cartons of 50 × 40 × 30 cm each count as 10 kg volumetric; if either is heavier than that, its real weight applies.
A real-world example: a flat from Al Uraija to Al Dhafeer
A teacher and his family are going back to Al Baha. They live in a two-bedroom flat on the third floor with no lift in Al Uraija, west Riyadh, and will move into the ground floor of the family house in Al Dhafeer. The load: a master bedroom, a children’s room, floor majlis seating, fridge and washing machine, a large bookcase and about thirty-five cartons.
- Crew: four movers and a carpenter in Riyadh; three movers in Al Baha.
- Equipment: a hoist for the bookcase and fridge from the third floor; a medium closed truck.
- Route: via Al Rain and Al Aqiq, arriving in the morning after the fog clears.
- Time: a day in Riyadh and half a day for unloading and assembly in Al Baha.
- Price: from SAR 1,120 for the apartment, plus the hoist; final figure after photos.
Preparation checklist
- Send the Al Baha location and describe the street: can a truck get in, is there a slope?
- Make sure electricity and water are working in the new home.
- Empty and dry the fridge the day before and disconnect the washing machine.
- Gold, documents, medicines and cash travel with you in the car.
- No gas cylinders, fuel or flammable products go in the truck.
- Pack a bag for the first two days, with warm clothes if you move in winter.
Mistakes that keep happening
- Not mentioning that the house is in a village or on a slope, so a truck turns up that can’t get in.
- Leaving mattresses unbagged so they soak up moisture.
- Choosing an offer without assembly, then hunting for a carpenter in a city you don’t know yet.
- Arriving at night in fog to save a few hours.
- Not asking whether your furniture travels alone or with other loads.
How the job runs
- Send room photos and both addresses through the quote request page.
- We review the photos and ask about access at your Al Baha home.
- You receive an itemised price and we agree the date.
- Dismantling, wrapping and loading in Riyadh.
- The drive via Al Rain and Al Aqiq, with a call before arrival.
- Unloading and assembly, then a walk-through with you before the crew leaves.
From Al Baha to Riyadh too
We also move in the other direction, from Al Baha and its governorates to Riyadh, in exactly the same way, and we arrange moves to other cities in the Kingdom on request.
