Furniture Moving from Riyadh to Sakaka | Closed Trucks Across the Nafud with Double Packing
If you are moving to Al Jouf, your furniture will travel about 1,000 km, including some 350 km across the Great Nafud desert between Hail and Sakaka. Al Saif handles furniture moving from Riyadh to Sakaka from start to finish: double-layer packing in Riyadh, a closed truck with a strapped load, the road through Qassim, Hail and the Nafud, then unloading and assembly at your home in Sakaka or Dumat Al Jandal. A room or small load starts from SAR 1,500, a two- or three-bedroom apartment from SAR 1,680 and a 4–5 room home from SAR 2,600, rising with volume, floors and distance. Send photos through the quote request page for a price after a free survey.

- Delivery: on day two; large homes may be assembled on the morning of day three.

The road for furniture moving from Riyadh to Sakaka
The first 620 km are the usual northern run: the Qassim expressway out of Riyadh, then the Qassim–Hail road. What makes the Al Jouf trip different starts after Hail, where the road turns north and crosses the Great Nafud for roughly 340–365 km to the edge of Sakaka. It is a wide road with several lanes each way, but it runs between long lines of dunes, stations are far apart, and the sand shifts with the wind. So the driver fills up in Hail, crosses the Nafud in daylight where possible, and stops without hesitation if dust picks up and visibility drops. Routine checkpoints need only the driver’s and truck’s papers for a household load.

Distances and times
| Leg | Approx. distance | Approx. truck time |
|---|---|---|
| Riyadh → Qassim | about 350 km | 3.5–4.5 hours |
| Riyadh → Hail | about 620 km | 7–8 hours |
| Hail → Sakaka across the Nafud | about 340–365 km | 4–4.5 hours |
| Riyadh → Sakaka | about 1,000 km | 10.5–12 hours of driving over two days |
| Sakaka → Dumat Al Jandal | about 50 km | under an hour |
We also deliver to Tabarjal, Al Qurayyat and the rest of the Al Jouf region, with the extra distance priced on the quote.
Al Jouf weather and the Nafud road
Al Jouf winters are harsh: some nights reach or drop below freezing, frost covers cars in the morning, there is occasional rain and sometimes early fog. Summers are hot by day and milder at night. On the Nafud road the main factor is wind moving sand along the shoulders. That shapes our work in three ways: packing that keeps fine sand out of drawers and appliances, a separating layer between wood and plastic to prevent condensation on cold nights, and daytime unloading in winter instead of working on an exposed staircase in the cold. Let TVs and electronics sit at room temperature for an hour or two before switching them on.
The trip timeline
| When | Work |
|---|---|
| Day one, morning | dismantling, packing and loading in Riyadh |
| Day one, afternoon to evening | on to Qassim and Hail, overnight there |
| Day two, morning | crossing the Nafud in daylight, arriving in Sakaka around midday |
| Day two after arrival | unloading and assembly; large villas may run into day three |
An overnight in Hail and a morning crossing put the longest empty stretch in daylight and bring the truck into Sakaka early enough to unload and assemble the same day.
Prices for furniture moving from Riyadh to Sakaka
| Home size | From |
|---|---|
| One room or small load | SAR 1,500 |
| 2–3 bedroom apartment | SAR 1,680 |
| 4–5 room home | SAR 2,600 |
| Villa | SAR 6,950 |
The villa price is clearly higher because over this distance a villa usually needs a second truck or a large trailer, a bigger crew in both cities and more time to load and assemble. In general the price rises with volume, floors and distance within Riyadh and Sakaka. Add-ons in Sakaka start from SAR 185 for a hoist, SAR 370 for kitchen work, SAR 115 per AC unit, SAR 140 per room for carpentry and SAR 140 for VIP packing.
What shapes the price on the Al Jouf route
- Actual volume: wardrobes, majlis sets and appliances decide the truck size.
- Overnight: the driver’s stay in Hail is included; two alternating drivers change the plan and price.
- Destination within Al Jouf: Sakaka and Dumat Al Jandal differ from Tabarjal or Al Qurayyat.
- Sharing: a few items on an Al Jouf- or north-bound truck cost less.
Double packing and load securing
The hard part of the Sakaka trip is not only its length but that it ends on a long sandy road with plenty of dust. We pack with that in mind:
- Every wooden piece gets a blanket or board layer first, then bubble wrap, then corner guards.
- Drawers are emptied and taped with residue-free tape, or removed and wrapped separately.
- Mattresses, rugs and cushions go into sealed bags.
- Mirrors and glass tops travel upright between two rigid sheets.
- The fridge is switched off and dried a day early, the washer drum locked, TVs boxed in reinforced cartons.
- Kitchenware is wrapped piece by piece and no carton is heavier than one person can carry.

Loading and strapping
We load so the weight spreads along the truck: heavy appliances and dismantled wardrobes front and middle, mattresses as buffers between rows, heavy cartons on the floor, sofas and majlis sets above, light items higher still. Each row is ratchet-strapped to the anchor points and gaps are filled with blankets. The driver checks the straps in Qassim, in Hail before the overnight, and again on leaving the Nafud before entering Sakaka.

Full truck or shared load?
A full home gets a dedicated truck running direct. For a few items, say the furniture of a Jouf University staff member or a government employee relocating alone, a shared load makes good sense because the long road cost is split. The trade-off is that a shared truck may stop in Hail or elsewhere. Loads are separated with labels and covers.
Closed only
We do not use open trucks for household furniture on this route. Three hundred kilometres of wind-blown sand will coat anything uncovered, and a cold northern night or a shower will do the rest.
Pickup in Riyadh, delivery in Sakaka
We collect across Riyadh: the north (Al Malqa, Al Yasmin, Al Sahafa, Al Arid), the east (An Naseem, Al Rawdah, Al Rayyan), the west (Dhahrat Laban, Al Suwaidi, Namar), the south (Al Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Badr) and the centre (Al Malaz, Al Sulaimaniyah, Al Olaya). Northern districts are nearest the Qassim road.
In Sakaka we deliver across the city, including Al Shalhoub, Al Tuwair, Al Aziziyah, Al Muruj, Al Faisaliyah, Al Dahiyah, Al Sulaimaniyah, Al Zaytoun, Al Shifa, Al Nuzhah, Al Rawdah and Al Salihiyah. For apartment blocks we ask about the lift and its size, for villas where the truck can park, and for farm homes, including the olive farms Al Jouf is known for, we ask for a map pin and a photo of the gate. We also deliver to Dumat Al Jandal, about 50 km away.
Unloading and assembly
The supervisor calls the receiver before arrival to agree where to park. The crew carries pieces into rooms, starting with bedrooms, then the kitchen, majlis and dining table, places each carton in its room and checks the count with you. If a sofa or wardrobe will not fit the stairs, the hoist is used. You can book AC units, wall heaters and curtains for the same visit, a common request from people arriving in Al Jouf before winter.
Sending urgent items by air
Since the furniture takes two days, you may need work documents, a laptop or children’s winter clothes before it arrives. These few items can go as domestic air cargo from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to Al Jouf International Airport, about 23 km from Sakaka, within one to two days. Pricing is on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, with volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000; a 60 × 50 × 40 cm carton of blankets and winter clothes counts as about 20 kg even if it actually weighs less. The furniture goes by road.
Worked example: Al Sahafa to Al Shalhoub
An employee living with his wife and three children in a fourth-floor, three-bedroom apartment in Al Sahafa, with a medium lift, has been transferred to Sakaka and rented a ground-floor home in Al Shalhoub. The load: three bedrooms, a sofa set, dining table, a small aluminium kitchen, fridge, washer, two TVs, two AC units and about 45 cartons.
- Quote: by photos on the apartment tier from SAR 1,680, plus the kitchen from SAR 370 and AC from SAR 115 per unit. The family flew one carton of winter clothes ahead.
- Day one: crew in at 7 a.m., loading done around noon, truck in Hail by evening where the driver slept.
- Day two: Nafud crossing in the morning, arrival in Al Shalhoub before midday.
- After arrival: quick unloading on a ground floor, bedrooms and kitchen assembled before sunset, AC units fitted the next morning by the technician.
Included, extra and insurance
- Included: crew, dismantling and assembly, double packing, closed truck, fuel, driver’s overnight, unloading.
- Extra: kitchens, AC units, hoist, VIP packing, storage, delivery to more distant Al Jouf towns, cleaning.
- Insurance: on valuables, on request.
Storage on arrival
If the Sakaka home is not handed over on time, or the family follows later, we keep the furniture packed in storage and deliver and assemble when you ask, priced by volume and duration.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Sakaka from Riyadh by truck?
About 1,000 km via Qassim, Hail and the Nafud road, roughly 10.5 to 12 hours of driving over two days.
Why does the truck cross the Nafud in daylight?
The Hail–Sakaka road runs between shifting dunes with stations far apart; daylight gives better visibility and a rested driver after the Hail overnight.
How much is moving an apartment from Riyadh to Sakaka?
A 2–3 bedroom apartment starts from SAR 1,680 and a room from SAR 1,500, with kitchens, AC and hoist added as needed.
Do you deliver to Dumat Al Jandal, Tabarjal and Al Qurayyat?
Yes. Dumat Al Jandal is about 50 km from Sakaka; Tabarjal and Al Qurayyat have their extra distance added to the quote.
How do you protect furniture from Nafud dust?
Closed trucks, sealed bags for mattresses and rugs, drawers taped or wrapped separately, and two layers on every wooden piece.
Does the Al Jouf cold affect furniture and appliances?
We separate wood from plastic to avoid condensation, advise letting electronics warm up before use, and unload in daylight in winter.
Do you install heaters and AC units in Sakaka?
Yes, on request during delivery, with AC from SAR 115 per unit.
Can I send winter clothes to Sakaka ahead of the furniture?
Yes, by air from King Khalid Airport to Al Jouf International Airport, about 23 km from Sakaka, within one to two days, on actual or volumetric weight.
Can you reach olive farms around Sakaka?
Yes. We ask for a map pin and a gate photo; if the truck cannot enter, a dyna does the last stretch.
I only have a single employee's belongings. Is there a cheaper option?
Yes, a shared load on an Al Jouf- or north-bound truck, which may stop in Hail before Sakaka.
Do you move from Al Jouf to Riyadh?
Yes, from Sakaka, Dumat Al Jandal and the rest of Al Jouf to Riyadh on the same plan.
