Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Abha | Dismantling, Packing & Closed Trucks over the Coast or the Highlands
At Muasasat Al Saif we handle furniture moving from Jeddah to Abha, a road trip of roughly 620 km. Furniture moving from Jeddah to Abha: which road do we take?
Two roads connect the cities, and our drivers pick one on the day based on truck size, departure time and the weather up in the mountains, not simply on what the map shows as shorter.
The coastal road and the climb
The truck heads south out of Jeddah along the coast, past Al Lith and Al Qunfudhah, towards the Muhayil Asir area, then climbs up to Abha through one of the escarpment passes. The coastal stretch is flat and quick but hot and humid for most of the year; the climb is short but steep with tight bends, so heavy items are placed at the front of the box and nothing leans on the rear door.
The Taif – Al Baha – Al Namas road
The alternative gains height early: Jeddah to Taif, then south along the highland road through Al Baha, Baljurashi, Al Namas and Tanomah into Abha. It takes longer because of the villages and curves, but it avoids the sharpest descents and suits large trucks and trailers. Its drawback is fog, which can blanket parts of the Sarawat on some days and slow traffic right down.
Rest stops and checkpoints
Fuel stations and rest areas are regular on both roads. The driver normally stops two or three times to rest and re-check straps. The truck also passes the usual checkpoints between regions, so we carry an inventory and the owner’s details in case anyone asks about the load.

Prices for moving from Jeddah to Abha
| Home size | From | Usual vehicle | Crew |
|---|---|---|---|
| One room or small load | SAR 1,020 | Small dyna or shared load | 2–3 |
| 2–3 bedroom apartment | SAR 1,850 | Closed dyna | 4 |
| 4–5 rooms | SAR 2,600 | Large dyna or truck | 5–6 |
| Villa | SAR 3,900 | Large truck or trailer | 6–8 |
A trailer without crew to Abha starts from SAR 1,850. In Jeddah a winch starts from SAR 280, split AC removal and reinstallation from SAR 140 per unit, and premium packing for delicate pieces is an add-on from SAR 140. What moves the price: the number of bulky pieces, stairs without a lift, narrow sloping streets at the Abha end, a kitchen that needs a carpenter to refit, and whether you take a full or a shared truck.
Distance and driving time
| Destination | Approx. distance from Jeddah | Truck time with stops |

| Al Soudah | about 640 km | 9–11 hours |
| Rijal Almaa | about 600 km via Muhayil | 8–10 hours |
| Al Namas and Tanomah | about 470–500 km via Taif | 7–9 hours |
A realistic timeline
Day one in Jeddah: the crew arrives in the morning, starts with the kitchen and wardrobes, then wraps sofas and tables and labels every box. A three-bedroom flat usually takes five to seven hours. Overnight: we prefer the truck to leave at dawn so it reaches the passes in daylight. Day two: arrival in Abha is usually in the afternoon, followed straight away by unloading and reassembly. A large villa may run into the next morning.
Packing for a long road and a change of climate

Furniture that has lived for years in Jeddah’s humidity suddenly meets Abha’s dry, cool air, and wood reacts: drawers stick, hinges drift. So we never wrap bare wood directly in plastic for the whole trip; a blanket or cardboard layer goes first and stretch film over it, so moisture is not trapped against the surface. Mattresses go into thick sealed bags, mirrors are cornered and stood upright, the fridge is emptied and dried the day before, and boxes are labelled with the room they belong to in the new Abha house.
Loading and securing before the passes

Heavy appliances and dismantled wardrobes go to the front, sofas next, light boxes at the back and stacked above, with each row strapped to the truck wall and blankets between layers so nothing rubs on repeated bends. In Jeddah towers without a lift we bring in a winch; in Abha many homes are two-storey houses with outside stairs, so manual carrying is usually enough.
Closed or open truck, full or shared load
We use closed boxes on this route: Abha gets sudden afternoon rain and the coast is dusty. An open truck with a tarp is only for metal or outdoor furniture. A full load leaves on your date and goes straight to you; a shared load suits a student or an employee with a room and some boxes, costs less, and leaves once the truck fills with other loads heading to Abha and Khamis Mushait.
Pickup areas in Jeddah, delivery areas in Abha
We collect from Al Rawdah, Al Naeem, Al Zahraa, Al Salamah, Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Aziziyah, Obhur, Al Hamdaniyah, Al Samer, Al Sharafiyah and Al Jamiah, and deliver to Al Mansak, Al Nasb, Al Khalidiyah, New Abha, Al Wasayef, Shamsan, Al Naseem and central Abha, as well as Al Soudah, Ahad Rufaidah, Khamis Mushait and Rijal Almaa. For village homes we check the access road first; if the truck cannot get in, we transfer to a smaller vehicle at the start of the lane.
Dismantling, reassembly, insurance and storage
Beds, wardrobes and large tables are dismantled, their screws bagged and labelled, and rebuilt in the same order in Abha. Kitchens need a carpenter to measure the new space, since Abha kitchens rarely match the old Jeddah layout. Curtain and TV mounting can be added. Insurance on valuables is available on request and agreed before loading with a list of items. If your Abha home is not ready on arrival, we store the wrapped furniture until you get the keys, priced by volume and duration.
Weather along the route
Within hours the road goes from coastal heat and humidity to mountain chill. In summer we avoid midday on the coastal stretch; on rainy or foggy days we wait for visibility before climbing. Abha winter nights are cold, so electronics are unloaded rather than left in the truck overnight whenever possible.
Sending urgent items by air
Sometimes a few boxes are needed before the furniture arrives: school papers, a week of clothes, a work laptop. We send these as domestic air cargo from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah to Abha Airport, arriving in one to two days. They are charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, where volumetric weight is length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. The furniture itself always goes by road. Ask for an air quote alongside your moving quote.
Worked example: Al Rawdah to Al Mansak
A family of four in a third-floor, three-bedroom flat in Al Rawdah: a master bedroom with a large wardrobe, two children’s rooms, a majlis, a small wooden kitchen, a fridge, a washer, two split ACs and about 35 boxes. One closed dyna, four movers and a carpenter. Day one: packing from 8 am to 3 pm and AC removal. Day two: dawn departure via the coast, arrival in Al Mansak after midday, unloading and reassembly by sunset. Price from SAR 1,850, with AC removal in Jeddah and kitchen fitting in Abha added after inspection.
Checklist, common mistakes and our steps
- Book the lift with your building guard; empty and dry the fridge a day early.
- Keep gold, cash, documents, medicines and chargers with you; no gas cylinders in the truck.
- Confirm the Abha address on the map and ask about street width and door sizes.
- Avoid quotes given without photos, night departures that reach the passes in fog, and low offers that leave out reassembly.
How it works: send photos and both addresses, we confirm vehicle, crew, price and date, the crew packs and loads, we share the expected arrival time, then we unload, reassemble and you check every piece before we leave.
Moving back from Abha to Jeddah
We also move from Abha and Khamis Mushait back to Jeddah the same way, whether it is a summer house being emptied or a family returning after a work posting in the south. To book your furniture moving from Jeddah to Abha, use our quote request page.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to move furniture from Jeddah to Abha?
From SAR 1,020 for a room or small load, SAR 1,850 for a 2–3 bedroom flat, SAR 2,600 for 4–5 rooms and SAR 3,900 for a villa. The final price follows photos or an inspection.
Which road does the truck take?
Either the coastal road via Al Lith and Al Qunfudhah with a climb near Muhayil, or the highland road via Taif, Al Baha and Al Namas. We decide based on truck size and mountain weather on the day.
How long is the drive for a loaded truck?
About 8–10 hours including rest stops.
Will my furniture arrive the same day?
Usually not. We load on day one, leave at dawn so the passes are climbed in daylight, and deliver and reassemble on day two.
Does the change from Jeddah humidity to Abha's dry air affect wood?
Drawers and hinges can shift slightly, so we wrap wood in blankets or cardboard before film and adjust doors and drawers during reassembly.
What if the street to my Abha home is narrow or steep?
We check access beforehand and, if needed, transfer the load to a smaller vehicle at the start of the lane.
Do you deliver to Al Soudah, Rijal Almaa or Ahad Rufaidah?
Yes, along with Khamis Mushait and the villages around Abha; extra distance is included in the quote.
Can a few boxes travel ahead of the furniture?
Yes, as domestic air cargo from Jeddah to Abha Airport in one to two days, charged on actual or volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 6000).
Is insurance included?
Insurance on valuables is available on request and agreed before loading.
Can you store furniture if the new house is not ready?
Yes, wrapped and stored until you receive the keys, priced by volume and duration.
Do you move and refit wooden kitchens?
Yes, a carpenter dismantles it in Jeddah and measures and refits it in Abha, priced separately.
