Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Riyadh | Humidity-Safe Packing, Closed Trucks & Reassembly

Muasasat Al Saif handles furniture moving from Jeddah to Riyadh as a complete door-to-door job. We collect from your home anywhere in Jeddah, from Obhur North and Al Shati to Al Salamah, Al Safa, Al Hamdaniyah and the southern districts, dismantle beds, wardrobes and kitchens, pack every item properly and load it into a closed truck for the roughly 950 km drive. In Riyadh we unload and reassemble in Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Al Rawdah, Al Aziziyah or wherever you are moving to. A single room or small load starts from SAR 560, a two- or three-bedroom apartment from SAR 1,120, and the final figure depends on volume, floors and extras. Send photos of your rooms through our quote request page and we will come back with a clear price before you book.

🚚 From the Red Sea coast to Najd

  • Distance: about 950 km by road.
  • Driving: around 10–12 hours for a truck, including rest stops.
  • Whole job: two to three days from the first screw in Jeddah to the last one in Riyadh.
  • From: SAR 560 room, SAR 1,120 mid-size apartment, SAR 1,700 four to five rooms, SAR 1,850 villa.
  • Truck: closed box, load strapped and separated.

The short answer: time, distance and price

Most people ask two things on the first call: how many days and how much. A mid-size apartment usually takes two days. Day one in Jeddah is for dismantling, packing and loading, the truck drives overnight or early next morning, and day two in Riyadh is for unloading and assembly. Villas and large homes may need a third day, mostly because reassembly, especially a wooden or aluminium kitchen, simply takes time.

Price comes down to three things: how much you are really moving, the floor you live on in each city, and whether you want the full service or just the truck with loading. That is why we do not give a final number over the phone without photos or a visit. A home described as “three bedrooms” can easily hold the furniture of five.

The route your furniture travels

The truck leaves Jeddah east on the Makkah expressway, takes the bypass around the northern side of Makkah, and continues on Highway 40 climbing towards As Sayl Al Kabir. After that the road becomes a long, mostly straight desert highway through Al Muwayh and Zalim, then Al Quwayiyah, about 170 km before Riyadh, and Al Muzahmiyah on the capital’s western edge.

There are regular fuel stations and rest areas, though some gaps in the middle stretch are long, so our drivers fill up at As Sayl and Al Muwayh rather than waiting. You will pass routine checkpoints that every inter-region traveller goes through. Household furniture needs no special permit; the driver carries the load list and your details.

In summer we prefer to drive after Asr or overnight, because the stretch between Al Muwayh and Al Quwayiyah gets very hot in the afternoon, and leather or plastic surfaces do not enjoy long heat even inside a closed box. In winter we drive by day for better visibility.

Jeddah to Riyadh moving prices by home size

Load From Typical fit
One room or small load SAR 560 Student or single employee, bedroom plus fridge and washer
Two- to three-bedroom apartment SAR 1,120 Small family, majlis, two bedrooms, standard kitchen
Four to five rooms SAR 1,700 Family with kids’ room and two sitting areas
Villa SAR 1,850 Full house, priced after inspection

Extras are priced separately: a crane lift when needed (from SAR 280 in Jeddah and SAR 185 in Riyadh), kitchen dismantling and installation from SAR 370, split AC removal in Jeddah from SAR 45 per unit and removal plus installation in Riyadh from SAR 115 per unit, and premium packing for antiques and fragile pieces from SAR 140.

Why two homes of the same size get different quotes

  • A fifth floor with no lift is a different job from a ground floor, and may need a crane at one or both ends.
  • An old aluminium kitchen comes apart easily; a wooden kitchen with a marble surface needs a carpenter and special protection.
  • Heavy items such as a safe, piano, gym machine or large double-door fridge.
  • A dedicated truck travels on your date; a shared load costs less but waits until the truck is full.
  • Storage, if the Riyadh home is not ready when the truck arrives.

Distances and driving times

Destination Approx. distance Truck driving time
Central Riyadh about 950 km 10–12 hours
North Riyadh (Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Hittin) about 960 km 10–12 hours
Al Muzahmiyah about 900 km 9–11 hours
Diriyah about 945 km 10–12 hours
Al Kharj about 1,000 km 11–13 hours

A realistic timeline

Day one, Jeddah. The crew arrives in the morning. Carpenters start on bedrooms and wardrobes, then the kitchen and AC units if requested, while the rest of the team packs. A three-bedroom apartment usually takes five to seven hours until the truck doors close.

The drive. The driver and one or two helpers cover the road in 10–12 hours with proper breaks. We never push a driver to go non-stop on a long, straight desert road.

Day two, Riyadh. We call you two or three hours before arrival. Boxes come off first, then large furniture, each piece placed in the room you choose, then beds, wardrobes and tables are assembled. A kitchen may run into day three.

Packing for humid Jeddah and dry Riyadh

This is what makes the trip different from a local move. Furniture that has lived for years in Jeddah’s humidity has absorbed some of it, and the particleboard in wardrobes and bedroom sets is slightly swollen. Once it reaches Riyadh’s dry air it starts to shrink. If damp wood is wrapped tightly in plastic, moisture collects under the film on the road and leaves marks or a musty smell. So wood gets cotton blankets or kraft paper first, stretch film goes on the outside, and large wooden pieces are never sealed on every side.

  • Boxes: double-wall cartons filled to the rim so they do not crush, numbered and labelled by room.
  • Glass and china: each plate wrapped separately and stood on its edge.
  • Mirrors and TVs: corner guards, bubble wrap and cardboard on both faces.
  • Sofas: heavy film against dust, blankets where they touch the truck wall.
  • Fridge and washer: unplugged and dried a day ahead, or water will leak in the truck.

In Riyadh we unwrap inside the house, not on the street, and let the wood settle before tightening every screw fully. It reduces the creaks and small cracks some people notice after moving from the coast to Najd.

Loading and securing the truck

Heavy items go low and towards the front: fridge, washer, dismantled wardrobes and bed panels. Heavy boxes go above them, then light ones. Sofas stand in the middle surrounded by mattresses, and mirrors and glass stand upright against a padded wall.

After each layer we tighten cross straps to the wall rings and put cardboard or blankets between pieces. Over 950 km there are bumps and speed changes, and anything loose will shift dozens of times.

Dedicated truck or shared load, closed or open

A dedicated truck suits a full home or a fixed key-handover date in Riyadh; it leaves on your day and opens only at your door. A shared load suits a room or a few items when your timing is flexible, but departure waits for the truck to fill and can slip by days. For this distance we do not recommend an open truck for household furniture: desert dust gets everywhere, the sun beats on the covers for hours, and wind can lift a tarp.

Dismantling in Jeddah, assembly in Riyadh

Each bed and wardrobe gets its own bag of screws taped to one of its parts and labelled with the room. It is a small habit that saves an hour or more in Riyadh. Bedroom carpentry starts from SAR 140 per room. Sliding wardrobe doors travel separately, kitchens are taken apart upper cabinets first with the marble surface protected by boards, and curtains and TV mounts can be refitted in Riyadh on request.

Pickup and delivery areas

In Jeddah we collect from the north (Obhur North and South, Al Shati, Al Zahra, Al Naeem, Al Muhammadiyah), the centre and east (Al Salamah, Al Rawdah, Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Hamdaniyah, Al Samer), the south (Al Jamiah, Al Sanabel, Al Khumrah, Al Harazat) and the old districts such as Al Balad and Al Ruwais, where narrow streets sometimes mean a smaller vehicle shuttles items to the big truck. In Riyadh we deliver to the north (Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Hittin, Al Yasmin, Al Sahafa), the east (Al Rawdah, Al Nadheem, Qurtubah, Al Hamra), the west (Laban, Al Suwaidi, Tuwaiq, Irqah) and the south and centre (Al Aziziyah, Al Shifa, Al Malaz, Al Olaya). Towers in Olaya and some northern compounds require booked unloading times and service-lift slots, so tell us early.

What is included and what is extra

The full service includes dismantling and assembling beds, wardrobes and tables, standard packing, loading and unloading into the rooms, the closed truck with driver and fuel, and placing furniture where you want it. Kitchen work, premium packing, crane lifts, AC units, storage and post-move cleaning are added on request. Ask for every extra to be written into the quote before moving day.

Valuables, insurance and what stays out of the truck

High-value items such as artwork, antiques or expensive electronics can be insured on request after we list them and note their condition before loading. Gold, cash, passports, title deeds, certificates, daily medicines, gas cylinders, fuel, pesticides and open or frozen food never go in the truck.

Storage on arrival

If your Riyadh keys are not ready, or the new home is still being repaired, we unload into a closed warehouse on pallets off the floor and deliver when you are ready. Storage is priced by duration and space and can be included in the same quote.

Weather and the right time to move

Summer is the hard season: we drive in the evening and unload in Riyadh in the morning. Winter nights in Najd are cold and early fog can appear on some stretches, so we drive by day. Dust storms can come at almost any time; when one gets heavy the driver waits at the nearest rest area. Demand peaks at the end of the month, before school starts and after holidays, so book at least a week ahead in those periods. During Ramadan we mostly work after Asr and at night.

Sending urgent items by air

Furniture always goes by road, but sometimes you need a few boxes in Riyadh before the truck: work papers, school clothes, a computer. We send these as domestic air cargo from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, arriving in one to two days. Air cargo is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, where volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. A 60 × 50 × 50 cm box counts as 25 kg even if it weighs 12, so we use small, full boxes. Ask for the air price together with your moving quote.

Worked example: Al Salamah to Al Narjis

A family of five on the third floor in Al Salamah, with a small lift that cannot take a full wardrobe: master bedroom, two kids’ rooms, majlis, living room, wooden kitchen and three split ACs, moving to a two-storey villa in Al Narjis. Two carpenters and four packers started at 8 am, packed about 65 numbered boxes and closed a dedicated truck shortly before Maghrib. The truck drove overnight and arrived the next morning. No crane was needed in Riyadh. Basic assembly finished on day two and the kitchen on the morning of day three. The four-to-five-room tier starts from SAR 1,700, plus the kitchen from SAR 370 and AC work per unit; the final figure was set after photos.

Avoiding the too-cheap offer

When a quote is far below everyone else’s, ask what it covers. Usually it is transport only with no dismantling or packing, a shared load that waits a week, an open truck, or a price that changes on loading day. Ask for the truck type, whether it is yours alone, what is dismantled and assembled, the extras and the expected arrival. To genuinely pay less: get rid of old furniture, pack light boxes yourself and avoid the end of the month.

Checklist and common mistakes

  • Decide what will not travel; worn-out furniture costs more to move than it is worth.
  • Defrost the fridge and dry the washer a day before.
  • Pack a two-day bag with clothes, medicines, chargers and documents.
  • Book the lift and truck parking with your Jeddah building, and confirm the Riyadh home has power, water and doors wide enough for the sofa.
  • Avoid sealing damp wood in plastic, half-empty boxes, handing over your Jeddah keys the same hour the truck loads, and forgetting that the Riyadh home has no lift.

How it works

  1. Send room photos or request a visit through the quote page.
  2. Receive a quote with volume, truck, extras and dates.
  3. Loading day in Jeddah, then the drive with regular updates.
  4. Unloading, assembly and room placement in Riyadh; we take the packing waste away.

We run the same route in reverse from Riyadh to Jeddah, and also move from Jeddah to Al Kharj, Qassim, Hail, the Eastern Province and the south.
