Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Dhahran | Compound & University Housing Gate Passes, Packing & Assembly
Dhahran is not an ordinary drop-off for a furniture truck coming from Jeddah. A large share of its residents live inside walled compounds, in company housing, or in King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) staff housing, and each of those gates has entry procedures that must be sorted before the truck arrives. At Muasasat Al Saif we handle furniture moving from Jeddah to Dhahran end to end: we dismantle and pack in Jeddah, drive a closed truck roughly 1,370 to 1,410 km via Riyadh, prepare the crew and vehicle details your gate asks for, then unload and reassemble on time. A room starts from SAR 1,400 and a two- to three-bedroom flat from SAR 2,300. Start from the quote request page.
🔑 Gate pass first, truck second
- Compound, company or university housing? Request entry for the truck and crew through your employer or compound office days in advance.
- What we send you: crew names and ID numbers, truck plate, type and size.
- Time: about 14 – 16 hours of driving; two to three days for the whole job.
- From: SAR 1,400 per room, SAR 2,300 for 2 – 3 bedrooms, SAR 3,500 for 4 – 5 bedrooms, SAR 6,500 for a villa.
Furniture moving from Jeddah to Dhahran at a glance
The road is about 1,370 to 1,410 km: Jeddah towards Makkah, then Riyadh, then the Eastern Province. A loaded truck needs 14 to 16 hours of driving with a sleep stop in the middle, so loading happens on day one, arrival on day two, and reassembly on the evening of day two or the morning of day three. If your compound only admits vehicles at set hours, we time arrival to those hours, even if that means the truck waits outside the gate overnight.

Moving into compounds and university housing
This is what sets a Dhahran move apart. Walled compounds, company residential areas and KFUPM faculty and staff housing do not let a truck and crew in without prior permission. The resident requests it through their employer or compound management, and we provide every detail needed. Gates typically ask for the resident’s name and unit number, the workers’ names and ID or iqama numbers, the truck’s plate, type and size, and the date and expected time. We send these as soon as the booking is confirmed so you can apply early, fix the crew size precisely (a gate may refuse a last-minute extra worker), keep to speed limits, truck routes and designated parking inside, and protect floors and entrances, since many units are part-furnished or have wooden floors. Some compounds do not allow large trucks on internal streets; the truck then parks at the entrance and a small dyna carries everything to your unit. We find this out in advance from you or the compound office.
The actual timeline
- Days before: you submit the gate request with crew and truck details.
- Day 1 morning, Jeddah: dismantling and packing, then loading and strapping until mid-afternoon.
- Day 1 evening: departure, part of the road, then a rest.
- Day 2: through Riyadh into the Eastern Province.
- Gate window: if the truck arrives at night and the compound only admits daytime deliveries, it waits until morning.
- Day 2 evening or day 3: unloading, reassembly and handover.
Route and distances to Dhahran and nearby

The truck follows Highway 40: Jeddah to Makkah on the bypass routes, the Riyadh expressway through As Sayl Al Kabir, Al Muwayh, Dhalim, Al Quway’iyah and Al Muzahmiyah, then the Riyadh–Dammam expressway across the Dahna sands and past Abqaiq. On arrival it heads into Dhahran on the Dhahran–Dammam road or King Abdulaziz Road depending on your address. Checkpoints at city approaches are routine; the driver carries the truck documents and contents list.

Packing for the trip: books, desks and electronics

Many people relocating to Dhahran are engineers, academics and professionals with libraries, home offices and equipment, which changes how we pack. Books go into small boxes, never large ones: a big box full of books tears and is hard to carry. They stand upright and each box carries its shelf number. Bookcases are taken apart, with sides wrapped in bubble wrap and a blanket. Monitors and printers get boxes with padding, and their cables go in numbered bags with the device. Important files stay off the truck; carry them or send them by air. Wooden furniture gets bubble wrap, blankets and corner guards; mattresses and sofas get sealed bags and full plastic covers against dust and humidity; dishes are wrapped one by one in divided cartons. Inside the box, the heaviest items sit on the floor at the front, panels stand with dividers, book boxes go at the bottom, and every row is strapped.
Loading and choosing the truck

A closed box is what we use for household furniture, protecting against sun, dust and Dahna sand; an open truck only suits metal and outdoor items. A full truck suits anyone with a fixed gate date, because it leaves straight away and arrives when agreed. A shared load costs less and suits a single person or a few items, but its arrival time is less precise, which may clash with a single-day gate pass. So we ask first: is your pass flexible or tied to one day? Truck size matters too. If the compound only admits small vehicles, it may make more sense to transfer to a dyna at the gate than to bring a large truck that cannot enter.
Dismantling in Jeddah, reassembly in Dhahran
Rooms, panels and screw bags are numbered, and wardrobes photographed as they come apart. Compound and university units usually come with a fitted kitchen, so there is no need to move yours; we can still dismantle it in Jeddah if you plan to sell or leave it. If you are moving into a villa or flat in Al Doha or Al Danah without a kitchen, we dismantle and refit from SAR 370. The same goes for ACs: many units have central air, so moving your split units only makes sense if you want them stored.
Pickup in Jeddah, delivery areas in Dhahran
We collect from Al Naeem, Al Zahra, Al Muhammadiyah, Al Shati, Al Rawdah, Al Salamah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Basateen, Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Rabwah, Al Samer, Al Ajwad, Al Harazat, Al Jamiah, Al Aziziyah, Al Sharafiyah, Obhur Al Shamaliyah and every other Jeddah district. In Dhahran we deliver to North and South Al Doha, North and South Al Danah, Al Qusur, Al Jamiah, the National Guard district and the compounds, plus company and university housing with a prior pass. Al Doha and Al Danah are open residential districts with good streets, so delivery there is like any neighbourhood; compounds depend on the pass and entry hours.
Weather on the road and on arrival
Najd summers are hot, often above 40°C between Dhalim and Riyadh, so we leave in the evening where possible and keep heat-sensitive items out of the load. Wind can blow Dahna sand across the road, and the driver slows down or stops. Dhahran has high summer humidity and occasional winter morning fog, with rare winter rain, so wrappings stay on until each piece is inside.
Sending urgent items by air
The furniture goes by road, but you may need your appointment papers, research files or work computer on your first day. We send a few boxes as domestic air cargo from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to King Fahd International Airport, the closest to Dhahran, in one to two days. It is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is greater, with volumetric weight being length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. A 45 × 35 × 30 cm file box has a volumetric weight of about 7.9 kg, but paper is heavy; if it weighs 14 kg you pay for 14. That is why small, full boxes of paper work out better than a large half-empty one.
Storage, insurance and what stays off the truck
Compound and staff-housing units are sometimes handed over after your start date, so you and your furniture arrive before the keys. We then store the load wrapped in a closed, air-conditioned warehouse in the Eastern Province and deliver once your gate pass is issued, priced by volume and duration. Insurance is available on request for the value you want covered, and valuable pieces are photographed before loading. Gold, cash, passports and documents, daily medicines and gas cylinders never travel in the truck; some compounds ban gas cylinders altogether.
Worked example: Al Naeem, Jeddah to university housing in Dhahran
A faculty member in a second-floor, three-bedroom flat in Al Naeem moved into a KFUPM housing unit. The load: two bedrooms, a small majlis, a desk and two large bookcases, about 40 boxes of books, fridge, washer and TV. The unit had central air and a fitted kitchen, so the ACs and kitchen stayed in Jeddah. We sent details for four workers, a carpenter and the truck straight after booking, and he submitted them days ahead. The books were split into small boxes: more boxes, but each one easy for a single worker. Loading finished at 3 pm, the truck reached the Eastern Province on the night of day two, and entered the housing area on the morning of day three within gate hours. Two file boxes went ahead by air. Price from SAR 2,300 for three bedrooms, with no kitchen or AC work, plus VIP packing for a delicate device from SAR 140.
Checklist and common mistakes
- Ask your housing office about the pass, entry hours and permitted truck size.
- Get our crew and truck details as soon as you book.
- Find out what the unit already has (kitchen, ACs, furniture) and leave behind what you will not need.
- Sort books and papers before packing day.
- Keep documents, gold and medicines with you.
Common mistakes: the truck arriving before the pass is issued, changing the crew or truck after the pass is approved, moving a kitchen or ACs into a fully equipped unit, packing books in big boxes that split, and choosing a shared load with a single-day pass.
How the job runs, and moving back
Send photos and your housing type, receive the price, submit the gate details we provide, then we dismantle, pack and load in Jeddah, drive via Riyadh to an arrival time matched to your gate, and unload and reassemble. When your contract ends or you move again, we move from Dhahran, Khobar and Dammam back to Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah with the same planning, including exit details for the compound. For any route, use the request a quote page.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a pass for the furniture truck to enter my Dhahran compound?
For walled compounds, company and university housing, usually yes. The resident requests it through the employer or compound office days in advance.
What details do you provide for the pass?
Workers' names and ID or iqama numbers, the truck's plate, type and size, and the expected date and time.
What if the truck arrives at night and entry is daytime only?
It waits for the permitted hours, which is why we time departure from Jeddah around your gate window.
My compound does not allow large trucks. What then?
The truck parks at the entrance and a small dyna carries the furniture to your unit.
What does a three-bedroom move cost?
From SAR 2,300 for two to three bedrooms and from SAR 3,500 for four to five.
Should I move my kitchen to university housing?
Those units usually have a fitted kitchen, so there is no need; we can dismantle yours in Jeddah if you plan to sell or leave it.
How do you pack a large book collection?
In small boxes, standing upright and labelled by shelf, so they do not split and are easy to carry and reshelve.
Is a shared load OK with a one-day gate pass?
Usually not, since its arrival time is less precise. A full truck suits a single-day pass.
Which airport receives my urgent boxes?
King Fahd International Airport, the closest to Dhahran; boxes from Jeddah arrive in one to two days.
My unit handover is late. Where does the furniture go?
We store it wrapped in a closed, air-conditioned warehouse in the Eastern Province until your pass is issued, priced by volume and time.
Can you move a gas cylinder?
Not in the truck, and some compounds ban them altogether.
Do you move from Dhahran back to Jeddah when my contract ends?
Yes, with the same planning, including the compound exit details.
