Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Sakaka | A Planned Trip via Hail and the Nafud with Long-Haul Packing and Assembly in Al Jouf
This is the longest northern route we run out of Jeddah. At Al Saif, our furniture moving from Jeddah to Sakaka service dismantles and packs your furniture in Jeddah, carries it about 1,250 km in a closed truck via Madinah, Hail and the Nafud desert, and unloads and reassembles it in your new Sakaka neighbourhood or in Dumat Al Jandal and the surrounding area. Driving takes around 13 to 16 hours, and the whole job runs two to three days. A room or small load starts from SAR 1,400 and a 2–3 bedroom apartment from SAR 2,300; volume, floor and distance raise the price. Send photos of your rooms through our quote request page.

Furniture moving from Jeddah to Sakaka: cost and time first
Numbers first, since that is what everyone asks. The distance is about 1,250 km, and a loaded truck does not travel at car speed, so it needs 13 to 16 hours of actual driving, split over two days with a night in Hail. Add a day of dismantling and packing in Jeddah and the assembly time in Sakaka, and the whole job comes to two days for a small flat and three for a large house or villa.
| Home size | Price | Approx. total time |
|---|---|---|
| Room or small load | from SAR 1,400 | two days, or per the shared-load schedule |
| 2–3 bedroom apartment | from SAR 2,300 | two days |
| 4–5 bedroom home | from SAR 3,500 | two to three days |
| Villa | from SAR 6,500 | three days |
The base price covers dismantling, packing, loading, transport, unloading and assembly of standard furniture. Added only when needed: fitted kitchen from SAR 370, winch from SAR 280 in Jeddah and SAR 185 in Sakaka, AC removal in Jeddah from SAR 140 per unit and refitting in Sakaka from SAR 115. The final price follows a free inspection or your photos.
Why do two homes on the same route get different quotes? Size (a villa with two majlis rooms and an annex sometimes needs two trucks), destination (Dumat Al Jandal, Tabarjal and Al Qurayyat are farther than Sakaka itself), floors without a lift, full versus shared load, and special items such as safes, pianos and heavy gym equipment.
The route: Madinah, Hail, then the Nafud
There is no coastal option for this trip; Al Jouf lies in the inland north. The truck takes the expressway from Jeddah to Madinah, about 420 km, then heads north-east to Hail, roughly 850 km from Jeddah. Hail is the usual overnight stop: a large city with fuel, workshops and rest houses, where the driver checks straps and tyres before the last leg.
From Hail the road runs north across the red dunes of the Great Nafud, around 400 km to Sakaka. It is a wide, paved road, but sand can drift onto the edges on windy days and the gaps between fuel stations are longer, so the driver fills up in Hail. There are routine security checkpoints between regions, cleared with the truck papers and our load list. A pickup in Madinah or a drop in Hail sits on the same road and can be added without changing the route.

Distances from Jeddah
| Stop | Approx. distance from Jeddah | Truck driving time |
|---|---|---|
| Madinah | about 420 km | 4.5–5.5 hours |
| Hail | about 850 km | 9–11 hours |
| Sakaka | about 1,250 km | 13–16 hours |
| Dumat Al Jandal | Sakaka plus about 50 km | under an extra hour |
| Tabarjal and Al Qurayyat | farther north of Sakaka | set in the quote by address |
A realistic timeline
- Day 1, Jeddah: the crew arrives in the morning, dismantles, packs and numbers, and loads in the afternoon.
- Evening of day 1 or morning of day 2: departure via Madinah to Hail, with a night in Hail.
- Day 2 or 3: crossing the Nafud in the morning and reaching Sakaka before mid-afternoon.
- On arrival: unloading and assembly the same day; a large house is finished the next morning.
We prefer the Nafud crossing in daylight: visibility is better and drifting sand on the road edges is easier to spot. You get a message on departure, on reaching Hail, and before we enter Sakaka.
Packing for the longest run north
Over 1,250 km, furniture faces everything at once: hours of vibration, Nafud dust, and a big change in temperature and humidity between Jeddah and Al Jouf. Wood used to coastal humidity enters dry air, and in winter very cold nights. So every wardrobe and bedroom set is fully dismantled, panels are wrapped in blankets and then plastic with a cloth layer in between, and corners get cardboard guards.

Sofas and majlis seating get cloth and then edge-sealed plastic to keep dust out. Crockery, glass and ornaments go into double-wall boxes, each item wrapped in paper and then bubble wrap. The fridge stays upright, the washer drum is locked, and TVs travel in dedicated cartons. Chandeliers are taken down, their parts packed in divided boxes, and rehung on request. Mattresses go into sealed bags and travel on their sides. After arrival, especially in winter, give sensitive wooden pieces a couple of days before final tightening so the wood settles.
Heavy items go against the front wall, weight is balanced on both sides, each row has its own straps, and boards separate appliances from wood. In Hail the driver re-tightens everything, because a load settles after hundreds of kilometres and some straps slacken.

Full load or shared load?
A complete home needs a dedicated truck that leaves on your date and drives straight to you. An employee with one or two rooms, or a student starting at Al Jouf University, can share a truck with other customers heading to Hail and Al Jouf and split the cost of a long trip, as long as they can wait a few days for the load to fill. Each customer’s goods are separated with their own list. We never use an open truck for furniture on this route: Nafud sand, sun and cold nights will ruin sofas and wood.
Pickup in Jeddah, delivery in Sakaka and Al Jouf
We collect from every Jeddah district, including Al Shati, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Naeem, Al Hamra, Al Andalus, Al Basateen, Al Waha, Al Fayha, Al Sulaymaniyah, Al Thaghr, Al Amir Fawaz, Quwaizah and Al Jamiah. In Sakaka we deliver to Al Shalhoub, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Luqait, Al Faisaliyah, Al Sulaymaniyah, Al Nasiriyah, Al Rabwah, Al Aziziyah, Al Zaytoun, Al Shulah, Al Muruj, Al Tuwair, Al Jawharah, Al Shorouq, Al Safa, Al Nafl and Al Matar, as well as Dumat Al Jandal, Tabarjal and Al Qurayyat. Newer Sakaka districts usually have villas with wide entrances where the truck parks at the door. Some older streets and the farms around the city, including the olive farms Al Jouf is known for, may need a small dyna for the last stretch, from SAR 185 per trip in Sakaka. Send us the location before we quote.
Assembly, insurance and storage
A carpenter travels with the load, dismantling in Jeddah and rebuilding in Sakaka, so he knows every piece and every fitting. Panels are numbered to match the inventory and unusual wardrobes are photographed before dismantling. In Sakaka the crew carries each piece to its room, rebuilds beds, wardrobes and dining tables, and hangs curtains, mounts TVs and refits chandeliers if included in the quote. Because the distance is long, many customers insure valuable pieces; this is available on request as a separate line. Storage is there for anyone who arrives before the keys or is waiting for a new villa to be finished: furniture stays wrapped and numbered until you call for it, priced by volume and duration.
Weather on the road and in Al Jouf
- Summer: intense heat from Jeddah to Hail, so we load in the morning and keep sensitive appliances away from the front of the box.
- Wind and dust: dust storms can sweep the Nafud; the driver waits for visibility rather than pushing on.
- Winter: bitterly cold nights in Sakaka and Hail, sometimes with morning frost, so we unload in daylight and keep furniture covered.
- Rain and fog: occasional winter rain and some morning fog around Hail; the driver slows down.
Sending urgent items by air
If you start work or classes in Sakaka two or three days before the truck arrives, there is no need to wait for your papers, laptop or winter clothes. We send urgent items as domestic air cargo from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Al Jouf airport within 1–2 days. The charge is based on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, where volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000, so a small, well-filled box costs less than a big, half-empty one. Send sizes and weights through the quote page. The furniture always goes by road.
Worked example: a villa from Al Shati to Al Zaytoun
A family returning to Al Jouf after years in Jeddah lives in a two-storey villa in Al Shati and has built a new villa in Al Zaytoun, Sakaka. The load: four bedrooms, men’s and women’s majlis rooms, a living room, a dining room, a fitted kitchen they want to take, two fridges and a freezer, two washers, five split ACs, two chandeliers and about 90 boxes. We send two closed trucks, two carpenters and six packers. One full day goes on dismantling, packing and loading; the trucks leave, stop overnight in Hail, cross the Nafud in the morning and reach Sakaka around midday, and assembly runs until the evening of day three. The villa starts from SAR 6,500, plus the kitchen from SAR 370 and the ACs (removal from SAR 140, refitting from SAR 115 per unit). The family insured the chandeliers and some ornaments as a separate line, and flew winter clothes and school papers to Al Jouf airport ahead of the furniture.
Checklist before loading day

- Carry gold, cash, documents and medicines yourself.
- Keep gas cylinders, fuel and pesticides out of the load.
- Empty and dry the fridge and freezer a day early.
- Make sure power and water are connected at the Sakaka home before arrival.

Mistakes we often see on this route
- Expecting same-day arrival over 1,250 km.
- Moving wardrobes assembled and finding loose joints at the other end.
- Choosing an open truck and receiving sofas full of Nafud sand.
- Accepting a quote without packing or assembly, then looking for a carpenter in Sakaka.
- Leaving winter clothes inside the loaded boxes.
How it works
- Send photos, your Jeddah address and your destination in Sakaka or Al Jouf.
- Receive an itemised quote with truck size and crew.
- Agree the loading day and approximate arrival.
