Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Taif | A Safe Climb via Al Sail Road with Assembly in Districts and Resorts

Furniture Moving from Jeddah to Taif | A Safe Climb via Al Sail Road with Assembly in Districts and Resorts

Jeddah sits on the Red Sea coast and Taif high in the Sarawat mountains, close to two thousand metres above it, and that climb is what makes furniture moving from Jeddah to Taif different from any other short move. At Muasasat Al Saif we dismantle and pack in Jeddah, the truck climbs about 170 km to Taif on the Al Sail road, which is the route set aside for large trucks, and we reassemble everything in Al Hawiyah, Shihar or Al Faisaliyah, or up at a rest house in Al Hada or Al Shafa. A mid-sized flat is usually done in one day. A room or small load starts from SAR 650, a two-to-three-bedroom flat from SAR 1,000 and a villa from SAR 4,200, rising with volume, floor level and how high up the property is. ⛰️ Coast to mountain: the trip in numbers

  • Distance: about 170 km, a little more via Al Sail.
  • Road time: two to three hours by truck.
  • Whole job: 8–11 hours for a mid-sized flat, two days for a large villa.
  • From: SAR 650 per room, SAR 1,000 for 2–3 bedrooms, SAR 2,850 for 4–5 bedrooms, SAR 4,200 villa.
  • Weather: Taif is clearly cooler than Jeddah, especially on winter nights.

Al Hada road or Al Sail road?

Anyone who drives from Jeddah to Taif knows two roads. The Al Hada road goes through Makkah and climbs the escarpment in a long series of hairpins up to Al Hada. It is beautiful and shorter, but very steep, often foggy, and closed from time to time for heavy rain, rockfalls or maintenance. The Al Sail road loops round through Al Sail Al Kabir and climbs at a gentler gradient; it is the road designated for large trucks, so that is the one furniture trucks take.

For your furniture, Al Sail is the better road: the gentle gradient means the load is not leaning backwards for the whole climb, and the driver does not need the constant braking that shakes a load loose. It is slightly longer, but for a truck the time difference is small, since no truck takes the Hada hairpins quickly anyway.

Stops and checkpoints

Out of Jeddah the truck skirts Makkah and heads east to Al Sail Al Kabir, a familiar stop with fuel, food and rest areas. The driver pauses there to check the straps and doors before the climb to Taif’s entrances. There are routine checkpoints as on any highway. No long stop is needed; the whole drive is shorter than half a working day.

Distance and time

Leg Approx. distance Approx. truck time
Jeddah → Taif (total) about 170 km, longer via Al Sail 2–3 hours
Jeddah → Al Sail Al Kabir around 130–140 km 1.5–2 hours
Al Sail Al Kabir → Taif around 50 km about 45 minutes
Taif → Al Hada around 25 km half an hour
Taif → Al Shafa around 30 km 40 minutes on a mountain road
Taif → Al Khurma around 180 km about two hours

What raises the price on this route

  • Location in Taif: Al Shafa, upper Al Hada or a farm means extra mountain road and possibly a smaller vehicle.
  • Upper floors without lifts: in older Jeddah blocks and some Taif buildings.
  • Villa size: Taif villas and rest houses often have outdoor majlis and garden seating.
  • Kitchen and ACs: priced separately.

Where we deliver in and around Taif

Area Examples Delivery note
North Taif Al Hawiyah, Al Washha, Al Rayyan, Al Salamah Spread-out districts of villas and new flats, direct from the Al Sail road
Central Taif Shihar, Al Faisaliyah, Al Aziziyah, Al Sharqiyah, Qurwa Narrower streets and older buildings; a winch may be needed
South and west Al Shuhada North and South, Al Qamariyah, Nakhb, Maashi Mixed residential areas, some sloping streets
Mountain resorts Al Hada, Al Shafa Rest houses, chalets and farms on winding roads
Nearby governorates Al Khurma, Turabah, Al Muwayh Extra distance added to the quote

The Al Shafa road in particular is narrow and twisting in places, and a long truck does not suit it. For Al Shafa rest houses we use a medium dyna and may split the load into two trips rather than risk a big truck on the bends.

Pickup in Jeddah

We collect from all of Jeddah. Eastern and southern districts near the Makkah road, such as Al Sanabel, Al Harazat, Al Ajwad and Al Muntazahat, save time; from northern districts such as Obhur North, Al Shati, Al Naeem and Al Mohammadiya, allow about half an hour more to get out of the city.

From humid Jeddah to dry Taif: what happens to furniture

Few people think about this. Wooden furniture that has spent years in Jeddah’s humidity has absorbed some of it, and in Taif’s drier, cooler air it can shrink slightly, so you may see fine cracks in solid wood or joints that loosen. It is nothing to worry about, but:

  • Let doors and drawers settle for a few days; we tighten everything at assembly, and a light re-tighten after a week may help.
  • Keep wooden furniture away from heaters in winter.
  • Leather sofas appreciate a conditioner after moving to dry air.
  • Pianos and wooden instruments need time to acclimatise before tuning.

Packing for the climb

Wardrobes and sofas wrapped in blankets in Jeddah before a move up to Taif

A long climb means the load leans towards the back of the truck the whole way, so packing and arrangement differ from a flat road. Sofas get film and a blanket, wardrobes come down to panels with each one wrapped, and glass and mirrors stand upright in rigid card frames. Heavy contents like books and crockery go in small boxes so they do not collapse under pressure.

Arranging the load for an uphill road

Heavy pieces sit on the floor against the front wall, each row has its own straps, and gaps are filled with blankets and rolled mattresses so nothing has room to slide. The fridge and washer are strapped upright to the wall.

Loading in Jeddah and the right vehicle

A large dyna or a medium closed truck handles a mid-sized flat. A villa takes a large truck, or a truck plus a dyna if the delivery point is up a mountain road the big one cannot climb. We prefer closed trucks on this route for two reasons: sun on the road, and rain or fog that can meet the trip on the mountain.

Dedicated truck or shared load?

A dedicated truck arrives the same day. A shared load suits a few pieces, say an AC unit or a bedroom set for a chalet in Al Hada, and waits for another trip heading to Taif.

What is included and what is extra

Included in a full move Added on request
Bedroom and wardrobe dismantling and assembly Kitchen removal and refitting
Film, blankets and boxes AC removal and installation per unit
Loading, strapping and unloading Winch for upper floors
Truck, driver and the Al Sail climb Delivery to Al Shafa, upper Al Hada or outside Taif
Placing items in their rooms Heater and curtain fitting, TV mounting, storage

When comparing offers, do not compare the number alone. Ask whether the truck will go up via Al Sail, whether dismantling and assembly are included, and whether delivery to Al Hada or Al Shafa is counted. A low offer that skips these usually shows its real cost on moving day.

Dismantling in Jeddah, assembly in Taif

The same carpenter dismantles and reassembles on the same day. We put back bedrooms, wardrobes, dressing tables and dining tables, and refit the kitchen if the walls suit it. Common Taif requests are fitting heaters and hanging heavy curtains, which Taif homes need in winter.

Moving-day timeline

  1. Early morning in Jeddah: dismantling and packing.
  2. Late morning: loading and strapping.
  3. Midday: the drive via Al Sail Al Kabir, two to three hours.
  4. Afternoon to evening: unloading and assembly in Taif.

In winter it gets dark early and cold quickly in Taif, so we start early so assembly does not run into the chilly night.

Weather and seasons

  • Summer: heat and humidity in Jeddah at loading, mild air in Taif on arrival, and possible afternoon thunderstorms in the highlands, so we cover the entrance and unload briskly.
  • Winter: cold nights in Taif and early-morning fog on the heights.
  • Holidays: summer is when families move up to Taif and its resorts, so demand and traffic rise.
  • End of the month: high demand as leases end.

Insurance and storage

Insurance on valuable items is available on request. Storage helps people moving to Taif before their home is ready, or clearing a summer chalet and wanting to keep its furniture, priced by volume and duration.

Sending urgent items by air

Over 170 km there is no need for air freight: the furniture arrives the same day by road, and no air arrangement would shorten that. For a document, keys or a small device needed before moving day, a courier between Jeddah and Taif delivers within hours. Anyone moving from Taif to a distant city can send urgent boxes by air through Taif or Jeddah airport depending on available flights, charged on actual or volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 6000), whichever is higher.

Worked example: Al Basateen in Jeddah to Shihar in Taif

  • Jeddah: three-bedroom flat on the first floor in Al Basateen.
  • Taif: ground floor of a villa in Shihar.
  • Items: two bedrooms, majlis, dining table, fridge and washer, two ACs, about 25 boxes.
  • Vehicle and crew: medium closed truck, four movers and a carpenter.
  • Time: about ten hours from first dismantling to last assembly.
  • Price: from SAR 1,000, ACs per unit.

Checklist

  • Send the Taif location and say if it is in Al Hada, Al Shafa or on a farm.
  • Pack warm clothes for the first days if moving in winter.
  • Empty and dry the fridge, disconnect the washer.
  • Keep gold, documents and medicines with you.
  • No gas cylinder in the truck.
  • Confirm power and water at the new home.

Common mistakes

  • Sending a long truck to an Al Shafa rest house without knowing the road.
  • Loading without strapping each row, so everything piles up at the back on the climb.
  • Leaving Jeddah late so assembly runs into Taif’s cold night.
  • Accepting a price that does not mention dismantling and assembly.
  • Over-tightening wooden furniture on arrival without letting it settle.
