Furniture moving from Jeddah to Tayma: what makes it different
Tayma is not a big city of towers and crowded districts. It is an old palm oasis surrounded by farms, where many homes are traditional houses or villas with large courtyards, and some families live on or next to a farm. That changes how delivery works. The last stretch to the house may be a dirt track, and the entrance may be a farm gate a long truck cannot get through. So before we quote, we ask about the last kilometre before your door, not just the district.
People moving from Jeddah to Tayma are usually either locals returning to family after years away, or employees taking up a post in the governorate. The first group brings a whole home; the second often brings a room or two. Each needs a different approach, which we explain below.
The route: Madinah, then north through Khaybar
We normally go inland. The truck takes the expressway from Jeddah to Madinah, about 420 km, then heads north to Khaybar, crossing the wide black basalt of the Khaybar lava field, and continues to Tayma. Fuel and rest stops are plentiful around Madinah and Khaybar but thinner on some later stretches, so the driver refuels before leaving Khaybar.
A coastal alternative runs via Yanbu, Umluj and Al Wajh, then inland via AlUla to Tayma. It is longer, and we only use it when there is a pickup or drop-off in one of the coastal towns. Both routes have routine security checkpoints between regions, which the driver clears with his papers and the load list.

Distances and driving times
| From Jeddah to | Approx. distance | Truck driving time |
|---|---|---|
| Madinah | about 420 km | 4.5–5.5 hours |
| Khaybar | about 590 km | 6.5–7.5 hours |
| Tayma | about 830 km | 9–11 hours |
| Al Kutayb or Al Juawiyah | Tayma plus about 80 km | about 1 extra hour |
| Al Jahra | Tayma plus about 100 km | 1–1.5 extra hours |
| Ardah | Tayma plus about 120 km | about 1.5 extra hours |
| Tabuk | Tayma plus about 265 km | 3–3.5 extra hours |

The final price follows a free inspection or your photos.
Full or shared load: the decision that saves money
For a complete home with bedrooms, majlis and appliances, a dedicated truck is the obvious choice: it leaves when you say and drives straight to your door. For a small load, it helps to know that there are fewer trips to Tayma than to the big cities, so we sometimes combine two or three loads heading to Tayma and Tabuk in one truck. You save a good share of the cost, but the delivery date needs a few days of flexibility while the load fills up. Each customer’s goods are separated and listed.
Closed trucks are the rule here. Over 830 km of open, often dusty country, nothing else makes sense for furniture. An open truck with a tarpaulin is only for farm tools, metal courtyard furniture or building materials, which we can carry alongside your home if you ask, kept apart from the rest.
Timeline for the two days
- Morning, day 1: the crew arrives in Jeddah, dismantles bedrooms and wardrobes, wraps and numbers everything.
- Afternoon: loading, strapping and departure.
- Evening: overnight stop near Madinah or Khaybar, depending on departure time.
- Morning, day 2: arrival in Tayma, then unloading and assembly until late afternoon.
A large house can need a third day for assembly; a shared load has its date agreed in advance.
Packing for distance and dust
Dust is a bigger enemy on this route than vibration. Sofas and floor majlis cushions get a cloth layer and then plastic sealed at the edges, mattresses go into closed bags, and appliance vents are taped. Bedrooms and wardrobes are fully dismantled, with fittings in numbered bags tied to each piece.

Crockery and glass go in double-wall boxes with each piece wrapped. TVs and small appliances travel in padded cartons. The fridge and freezer are emptied a day early and kept upright; switch them on in Tayma a few hours after they arrive. Rugs are rolled, tied and covered rather than folded, so the fibres do not crease and break. Farm tools and metal items are wrapped separately so they cannot scratch furniture.
We load the truck so that what you need first comes off first, usually bedrooms and mattresses, so the family sleeps properly on the first night. Heavy pieces go against the front wall, each row is strapped, and blankets fill the gaps.

Pickup in Jeddah, delivery in Tayma
In Jeddah we collect from eastern districts such as Al Samer, Al Ajwad, Al Manar and Al Harazat, central ones such as Al Rabwah, Al Safa and Al Fayha, northern ones such as Obhur, Al Shera’a and Al Hamdaniyah, and southern ones such as Al Khumrah, Al Sanabel and Al Jamiah.
In Tayma we deliver to the old town near the ancient wall and Bir Haddaj, to the newer neighbourhoods around it, to farms and rest houses on the outskirts, and to the governorate’s centres: Al Jahra, Al Kutayb, Ardah and Al Juawiyah. If your home is on a farm, send the map location and a photo of the entrance so we know whether the truck can get in or a small dyna is needed.
Assembly, insurance and storage
The carpenter who travels with the load dismantles in Jeddah and reassembles in Tayma, so no fittings go missing and panels never get mixed up. Many Tayma houses have large rooms with high ceilings, so we take care anchoring tall wardrobes to the wall. Curtains and TVs can be put up if included in the quote. Insurance for valuable pieces is available on request as a separate line. Storage is useful if you are waiting for the family house to be renovated or an annex to be finished: furniture stays wrapped and numbered until it is ready, priced by volume and duration.
Weather between Madinah and Tayma
Summer is hot and dry the whole way, so we load in the morning and drive in cooler hours where possible. Dust-laden winds blow on some days across the open ground north of Khaybar; the driver slows down or waits for visibility to improve. Winter nights in Tayma are noticeably cold and occasional rain passes through, so we keep furniture covered while unloading and never leave anything exposed in the courtyard.
Sending urgent items by air
If you need a few things before the truck arrives, such as a new employee’s official papers, a laptop or medicines you would rather not carry in the car, we send them as domestic air cargo from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk in 1–2 days, and they continue to you by road. Air cargo is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. Send sizes and weights through the quote page. Furniture goes by road.
Worked example: a family returning from Al Samer to Tayma
A family in a second-floor, three-bedroom flat in Al Samer decides to move back to the family house in Tayma, a single-storey home at the edge of town beside the farms, reached by a narrow dirt track. Their load: a master bedroom, a girls’ room, a boys’ room, a floor majlis, rugs, fridge and freezer, washer, a TV and about 40 boxes. We send a medium closed truck, a carpenter and three packers. Packing and loading happen on Thursday morning, the truck leaves at midday, stops overnight near Madinah and reaches Tayma on Friday morning. A small dyna shuttles the load from the paved road to the door in two runs, from SAR 185 per trip. The flat starts from SAR 2,300, plus the dyna and any AC removal in Jeddah from SAR 140 per unit. Because bedrooms and mattresses came off first, everyone slept in their own rooms that night; the majlis and kitchen were finished the next day.
